11.7 Setting the reflected temperature

Setting the reflected temperature only is critical if objects with strong emissions and
a much higher temperature are in the proximity of the object you want to measure.
The reflected temperature only has a small effect on objects with a high emissivity.
In most cases, the reflected temperature is identical to the ambient air temperature.
Using the offset factor, the low emissivity of the reflection is factored for in the calcu-
lation, and the accuracy of the temperature measurement with infrared instruments
is improved.
Setting the reflected temperature involves two steps:

1. Touch the parameter menu button
2. Select 'Emissivity'.
3. Set the emissivity to 1.0.
4. Adjust the optical lens to near focus.
5. Looking in the opposite direction away from the object, take a measurement
and freeze the image.
6. Determine the average value of the image and use that value for your input of
the reflected temperature.
