1.2. Legal requirements for the vehicle
The Pedelec (with support up to 25 km/h) is legally equivalent to the bicycle. The
driver does not need a driving licence. For your own safety, we recommend that you
always wear a suitable helmet and cycling goggles.
Your HNF-NICOLAI pedelec corresponds to the German StVZO, if all enclosed
reflectors are attached.
-> Please check your country specific requirements concerning lighting devices and
decide which passive reflectors are necessary to be mounted.
When exchanging and replacing parts and components, make sure that
only original parts are used. Particularly when replacing components of the
drive system, the chassis and the brake system, approval from the vehicle
manufacturer is required. Other components should only be used if they
are approved for use on pedelecs. If you are unsure which components you
are allowed to use, please contact the manufacturer or your INSYNC dealer.
Increasing the maximum support speed (= tuning) to more than 25 km/h on
your HNF-NICOLAI pedelec transforms the vehicle into a moped. There are
serious consequences in the event of a vehicle inspection or an accident, as
this is a vehicle without operating licence and insurance!
The Speed Pedelec (45 km/h) is classified as a motor vehicle. You need it to participate
in road traffic:
- a class AM, motorcycle or other motor vehicle driving licence
- an insurance plate affixed to the vehicle
- a suitable motorcycle helmet (in Germany bicycle helmets are tolerated as well)
The following safety equipment must be mounted on the vehicle to meet the
requirements of Class L1-eB
• Rear-view mirror
• Rear reflector, pedal reflectors, side reflectors on fork
• Front light (with e-approval mark)
• Rear brake light & registration plate light (with e-approval mark)
• Horn
• Tyre of speed category B, load index 12 (front), 26 (rear) and approval
according to ECE R75
