Using soda lime
Soda lime should not escape from the disposable CO
when it is not damaged and used in accordance with its intended
purpose.
WARNING
Risk of patient injury
Do not use with trichloroethylene or chloroform because
chemical reactions produce toxic products.
CAUTION
If soda lime has escaped – e. g. when the disposable CO
absorber is damaged:
– Do not inhale or swallow powdered soda lime.
– Wear protective gloves and goggles, or a face protection.
– If soda lime enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of
water and seek medical advice immediately to prevent eye
injuries.
– Powdered soda lime on the skin can cause irritation and
must be washed off immediately.
NOTE
Fresh Drägersorb Free may be colored slightly violet.
When Drägersorb Free comes into contact with sevoflurane, it
changes its color to light violet.
Intended use
The CLIC adapter is used to connect the disposable CO
CLIC Absorber Free.
The disposable CO absorber CLIC Absorber Free is designed to

absorb carbon dioxide from the breathing systems of Dräger
anesthesia workstations.
To be used with the volatile anesthetic agents halothane,
enflurane, isoflurane, sevoflurane, desflurane, and nitrous oxide
(N O).

The disposable CO absorber can be replaced during operation.

A valve in the CLIC adapter tightly seals the breathing system
when the disposable CO absorber swings open. Ventilation can

be continued without impairment.
Application
The disposable CO absorber can be used with the following

Dräger anesthesia workstations:
– Perseus A500
– Apollo
– Fabius OS, Fabius GS, Fabius GS premium, Fabius Tiro,
Fabius MRI
– Narkomed 6000 SW from 7.20
– Julian
Preparation
CLIC adapters are available for the devices listed under
"Application". The appropriate CLIC adapter must be installed by
experts, e. g. DrägerService.
Before switching on the anesthesia workstation, click the
disposable CO absorber into place. The disposable CO

absorber is thus included in the leakage or compliance test of
the device.

Installing the CLIC adapter

 Insert the CLIC adapter into the breathing system from below

and turn it to the right as far as possible. The unlocking button
(A) must face forward and be visible to the user.

The soda lime will dehydrate. If the humidity falls below a
minimum level, undesirable reactions can occur,
independent of the type of soda lime and the volatile
anesthetic agent used: reduced CO
heat build-up in the CO
increased breathing gas temperature. These reactions can
endanger the patient.

Note when treating neonates and infants (only applies to
Narkomed 6000 and Julian):
The compliance of the breathing system is reduced when
the disposable CO
ventilator delivers a higher tidal volume to the patient
during IPPV/SIMV, and the airway pressure increases
accordingly. The effect on the tidal volume and airway
pressure is negligible when treating adults with a lung
compliance of approx. 50 mL/hPa (50 mL/mbar).
When treating neonates and infants with a lung compliance
of approx. 5 mL/hPa (5 mL/mbar) and less, the tidal volume
and airway pressure can increase considerably and harm
the patient if the disposable CO
during IPPV/SIMV.
Before removing the disposable CO
 Set Pmax to the plateau pressure.
As soon as the disposable CO
replaced:
 Reset Pmax to the original value.
