ExciCut
-for cutting of the hardest
materials
Unitom-50 comes standard
with the unique ExciCut fea-
ture. During cutting, the cutting
table moves slightly forwards
and back wards. This reduces
the contact area between cut-
off wheel and workpiece, and
en a bles troublefree cutting of
very hard materials in very large
siz es. An added benefi t is bet ter
access of the coolant into the
cut, eliminating the risk of ther-
mal damage.
The ExciCut technology was
in vent ed by Struers more than
a decade ago, and appears on
Unitom-50 in a highly refi ned
version.
Direct Cut
-the classic cutting mode
For cutting of less
hard materials, the
Direct Cut mode is
ideal. This classic
cutting mode moves
the cut-off wheel into the work-
piece in a linear movement.
Automatic Feed Reduction
-fastest cutting without dam-
ag ing sample and cut-off wheel
On an ordinary automatic cut-off
machine, feed speed or force
is preset and kept con stant
throughout cutting. Struers have
proven that main tain ing a con-
stant feed speed offers far bet-
ter results than con stant force.
However, if the preset feed
speed is too high in relation to
the workpiece hardness or size,
there is a risk of thermal dam-
age. To overcome this, Unitom-
5 and -50 have been fi tted with
an ingenious feature, Automatic
Feed Reduction, which will
au to mat i cal ly reduce the feed
speed and proceed to cut with
the reduced speed.
In this way, cutting is performed
as fast as possible, without risk-
ing damage to sample or cut-off
wheel.
AutoStop
-for unattended cutting
Conduct your cutting unatten-
ded, and let Unitom-5 and -50
stop automatically.
Beyond being able to work with
preset stop positions, Unitom
has an AutoStop feature, where
it automatically detects when
the workpiece has been cut
through. Thereafter the cutting
motor and coolant are stopped
and the cut-off wheel retracted.
This allows completely un at -
tend ed cutting.
Automatic Cutting Table
-for cutting of multiple,
uniform slices
Unitom-5 can be equipped with
a motorized table for cutting
plane parallel sections. The ta-
ble makes it possible to cut a
number of samples without any
manual operation. Pro gram ming
and operation of the au to mat ic
table is an integrated part of
the menu control of Unitom-5.
Thickness and number of cuts
can be programmed.

Constant Feed Speed
-patented cut-off wheel

A unique, patented method of
moving the cut-off wheel dra-
mat i cal ly increases the quality of
a cut. Struers has proven that
this method effectively counters
the extreme forces ap plied to a
workpiece when a cut-off wheel
enters and exits a workpiece.
Rapid Advance
-fast contact with the workpiece
Having started Unitom-5 or –50,
the cut-off wheel can be advan-
ced with increased speed until
it contacts with the workpiece.
Unitom then automatically
chang es to the preset speed.
Continue Function
-stop and resume as you please
If cutting has been temporarily
stopped, it is possible to press
"Continue", and the cut-off
wheel will move quickly to the
position where the cutting was
