4. Use the torque wrench to tighten each setscrew (turning clockwise) to
complete the electrical circuit. Hold the extension firmly on the sides of
each setscrew connector block while tightening the setscrew. Tighten
until the torque wrench clicks at least once (Figure 12).

Cautions:
▪
To avoid overtightening, use only the torque wrench included
in the extension package to tighten the extension setscrews.
Overtightening the extension setscrews may damage the lead
contacts and cause an open or short circuit, resulting in
intermittent or loss of stimulation.
▪
Discard the torque wrench after making all connections.
Reusing a torque wrench may result in undertightening or
overtightening and subsequently, intermittent or loss of
stimulation.
▪
Do not pull the lead body taut when implanted. The extension
is available in different lengths. Select an extension length
that allows connection without tension. Excess tension on the
lead or extension may cause lead migration or lead or
extension fracture, resulting in a loss of therapy and requiring
surgical intervention.
▪
Ensure the torque wrench is perpendicular to the setscrew
surface while tightening the setscrew. Failure to hold the
wrench perpendicular while tightening the setscrew may result
in undertightening or false tightening of the setscrew, resulting
in intermittent or loss of stimulation.
▪
Hold the setscrew connector block firmly between thumb and
two fingers to support the lead body and prevent rotation.
Failure to properly prevent rotation may break or damage the
lead or extension, and may require lead or extension
replacement.
5. Slide the connector boot over the lead-extension connection
(Figure 13A) and tie a ligature (using nonabsorbable silk) around both
ligature channels of the boot (Figure 13B).
