The maximum rated voltage that should be applied between the BENNING CM 3
and earth ground is 600 V.

8.2 Current measurement

- Use switch 6 to select the current type and switch 7 to select the range on
BENNING CM 3.
- Before DC current measurements turn adjusting knob 5 on the
BENNING CM 3 to obtain reading of „0" on the display 8 .
- Press the trigger button 3 to open the clamp jaws and clamp one single lead
conductor.
- Read the measurement value from the digital display 8 .

Maintenance

Remove test leads and turn the power off before opening the

BENNING CM 3! Dangerous voltage!
Any work to be carried out on an opened BENNING CM 3 under voltage is strict­
ly reserved for qualified electrotechnical personnel who must take special
precautionary measures to avoid accidents.
This is how to ensure that the BENNING CM 3 is free from any voltage before
the instrument is opened:
­­ first­remove­the­BENNING­CM­3­from­measured­object.
- push the selector switch 7 to the „OFF" position.
9.1 Instrument safe­guarding
In certain circumstances, safety during the use of the BENNING CM 3 can no
longer be guaranteed; when for instance:
- there is visible damage to the instrument
- measurement errors occur
- the instrument has been subjected to prolonged storage under unfavorable
conditions and
- the instrument has been subjected to severe transport stresses.
In such cases the BENNING CM 3 must be immediately switched off, removed
from the measurement points and secured against any future unintentional ope-
ration.
9.2 Cleaning
Wipe the case of the BENNING CM 3 with a clean dry cloth (exception: spe-
cial cleaning cloths). Do not use any solvents and/or abrasives to clean the
BENNING CM 3.

9.3 Battery replacement

Remove test leads and turn the power off before opening the

BENNING CM 3! Dangerous voltage!
The BENNING CM 3 is powered by one 9-V block battery. Battery replacement
(see­figure­4)­becomes­necessary­when­the­low­battery­indicator­appears­in­the­
display 8 .
This is how to change the batteries:
- Remove the BENNING CM 3 from the measured circuit.
- Place the BENNING CM 3 on its front side and remove the screw from the
battery box lid on the case back.
- Slide the battery lid sideways from its position.
- Remove the empty battery from the battery box and carefully disconnect the
battery leads from the battery.
- Snap the battery connector leads to the terminals of a new battery in the
correct direction and place the leads so that they do not become pinched
between the case back and case front. Reinsert the battery into the battery
box.
- Replace and fasten the battery box lid with the screw. Ensure that the battery
lead does not become pinched by the lid.
