4.2 AC and DC Current Measurement

Important Notice!
The unit can measure a maximum current of 10 A without risk of
damage. Never connect a voltage source directly to the current
input sockets of the unit. The 10 ampere measuring range is not
protected by a fuse. Be sure not to measure circuits with over 10
ampere.
To measure the current, "break" the circuit to be measured and
connect the measurement cables in series to the circuit or load.
Measuring Procedure
1. Connect the red measuring cable to the 10 A-Input (6) or the mA-
Input (7) and the black measuring cable to the COM-Input (8).
2. Set the rotary switch (4) to the 10 A, 200 mA, 20 mA position of the
correct voltage type (AC or DC).
3.
"Break" the circuit to be measured by disconnecting the circuit from
the power source. Then connect the measurement cables (in se-
ries) to the load or circuit to be measured. Observe correct polarity
for DC current measurements (red to plus and black to minus).
4. Now turn the voltage on the circuitry to be tested back on.
5. Now the measured value can be read from the LC display (1). If the
result is negative the minus symbol appears to the left of the dis-
played value. If necessary, reverse the polarity by switching the
probes (Notice: Disconnect the circuitry from the power supply
first!).
Notes:
If you are unsure of or cannot estimate the expected current, for
safety reasons always start with the measurement in the 10 A
range.
When the rotary switch (4) is set to the 10 A
"20" appears in the display under the decimal place of the meas-
ured value. This has technical reasons and is of no further meaning.
