Under strain the person will be held. When the leader releases the rope, a
short jerk at the rope is sufficient to unlock and to lay out more rope or
slight pressure can be put on the brake cam for laying out more rope.
Lowering and passive abseiling
In order to carry out lowering/abseiling, the arriving rope must be
additionally led through a separate pulley karabiner to gain higher rope
friction.
(h) The free, unstressed rope (arriving) over a pulley karabiner must
always be grasped and led with the braking hand.
Release the stressed load rope and lower the person hanging on the rope
by pulling the control lever carefully until the carrying position is reached.
Now lower the person with controlled speed to the ground. The abseiling
speed increases with progressive release of the control lever.

LORY as descender device

Abseiling
(I) The anchor point (EN 795) should be situated vertically above the
abseiling path. The safety rope is attached to the anchor point as a single
rope.
When using the karabiner, take care that the safety device is not pressed
against the wall construction, where it could open accidentally.
The LORY must be attached to the front anchor eyelet of the harness
(J)
worn by the user
(EN 361/EN 12277) with a karabiner with safety device.
Insert the safety rope into the LORY according to the instructions and close
the device.
Tension the rope
Never allow jumping into a slack rope!
One hand grasps the brake lever, the other the arriving, unloaded rope.
(K)
Put weight on the rope carefully and take the abseiling position.
Start the abseiling procedure by pulling the control/brake lever slowly and
carefully. The abseiling speed increases with progressive release of the
control/brake lever.
The arriving rope must be led with the free hand during the whole abseiling
procedure. This way abseiling uncontrolled and too fast can be avoided.
Wear protective gloves!
Safety control
Risk of falling and danger to lige in case of non-observance
Is the harness put on correctly?
Is the safety rope securely attached to the anchor point?
Is the LORY properly attached to the harness?
Is the rope correctly inserted?
Pull the LORY down with a jerk in order to test the blocking.
Double-stop safety function against overload
In case of overloading (pulling the brake lever too far) the brake cam jumps
automatically back into the stopping position and locks the rope
= double-stop safety function
The brake lever remains in the raised position.
You can release the brake cam again by pushing the lever carefully forward
to continue the abseiling procedure.
The double-stop safety function is an additional safety function to avoid
overload with inadvertent acceleration.

Lifespan/Verification for the descending and safety device LORY

Abseiling work
The descending device LORY has been tested according to EN 341 with the highest abseiling work (class A).
After having reached the abseiling work the descending device must be replaced or sent back to the manufacturer for inspection.
Evidence must be provided about the use and the amount of work must be entered in the data sheet of the device.
