16. Troubleshooting

Warning:
Always switch the machine off and pull the plug out of the socket prior to troubleshooting.
Fault
The axle moves into its starting
position too quickly or too slowly
The
sprocket
chuck

Problem
The spring pre-tension is set incorrectly. Set the pre-tension, see "Setting the
Dirt, grease or oil on the spindle or the
inside of the sprocket chuck.
2. The spindle is too dry.
3. The pulley on the spindle is loose.
4. The pulley on the motor is loose.
There is no suitable base underneath
the workpiece.
There is no suitable base underneath the
workpiece or it is secured insufficiently.
1. Incorrect speed.
2. No chips come out of the hole.
3. The drill bit is blunt.
4. Insufficient downward pressure.
1. Hard places in the wood or the length
and angle of the drill bit is different.
2. The drill bit is bent.
1. The workpiece and drill bit are twisted
or the downward pressure is too great.
2. Insufficient V-belt tension
1. The drill bit is bent.
2. The spindle bearing is worn exces-
sively.
3. The drill bit is not clamped centrally in
the sprocket chuck.
4. The sprocket chuck is not fastened
correctly.
Solution

Use a household cleaning agent to
clean the surface of the spindle and the
sprocket chuck. Also see "Installing the
sprocket chuck".
1. Set the V-belt tension again. Also see
"Setting the speed and V-belt tension".
2. Test the spindle.
3. Check that the nuts on the pulley are
tight and re-tighten if necessary.
4. Tighten the set screw on the motor
pulley.
Use a suitable base. Also see "Position-
ing the workpiece".
Put a base underneath the workpiece or
secure it.
1. Change the speed. Also see "Select-
ing the speed and V-belt tension".
2. Move the drill bit out of the hole regu-
larly in order to pull the chips out.
3. Sharpen the drill bit.
4. Increase the downward pressure.
1. Sharpen the drill bit.
2. Replace the drill bit.
1. Place something underneath the
workpiece or secure it. Also see "Posi-
tioning the workpiece".
2. Set the V-belt tension. Also see "Se-
lecting the speed and V-belt tension".
1. Use a straight drill bit.
2. Replace the spindle bearing.
3. Check the centring. Also see "Insert-
ing the tool into the sprocket chuck"
4. Fasten the sprocket chuck correctly.
