2.3. CHARGING

2.3.1. CHARGING THE BATTERY IN A REMOVED STATE

Make sure that the mains power switch on the rear of the device is set to OFF
(see Figure) and the plug of the charger is not connected to the power socket.
The power must be interrupted.
Connect the red plus cable to the plus pole of the battery, labelled either „+"
or „P".
Connect the black minus cable to the minus pole of the battery, labelled either
„-" or „N".
Set the output voltage on the charger in accordance with the battery to be char-
ged, either 12 or 24 Volt, see Figure:
Switch to the Boost function of the charger on to quickly charge the battery, or
set the minimum (MIN) charging current to charge the battery more gently, see
Figure:
Only then, at the very end of set-up, plug the plug of the charger into the
230V mains socket and set the main power switch on the rear of the device
to ON. The device is now switched on and working.Charging the battery in
the installed state.

2.3.2. CHARGING THE BATTERY IN THE INSTALLED STATE

We recommend not charging the battery in the installed state. When
charging, acid splashes are unavoidable. The acid will attack paint and
other components of the vehicle. With the battery connected to the ve-
hicle, the vehicle electronics may be damaged. Observe the instructions
from the vehicle manufacturer. For this purpose, read the operating inst-
ructions or maintenance manual of the vehicle manufacturer.
Make sure that the mains power switch on the rear of the device is set
to OFF (see Figure)
and the plug of the charger is not connected to the power socket. The
power must be interrupted. The second step is to connect the red plus
cable to the plus pole of the battery, labelled either „+" or „P". Now clip
the black minus cable to an exposed part of the chassis as far as possible
from the battery and the fuel line. Set the output voltage on the charger
in accordance with the battery to be charged, either 12 or 24 Volt, see
Figure:
Switch to the Boost function of the charger on to quickly charge the bat-
tery, or set the minimum (MIN) charging current to charge the battery
more gently, see Figure:
Only then, at the very end of set-up, plug the plug of the charger into
the 230V mains socket and set the main power switch on the rear of the
device to ON. The device is now switched on and working.
2.4. CHARGING CURRENT AND DURATION.
During the charging process, the Ampere meter of the charger dis-
plays the current charging current. The charging current drops during
the course of charging. When the charging current approaches zero,
the battery is fully charged. In order to prevent overloading damages
to the battery, the charging current of the battery must be constantly
monitored. The charging duration of the battery to be charged de-
pends on a number of factors, for example, the capacity of the bat-
tery, the ambient temperature, the charging state, the performance
of the charger etc. The exact charging state of the battery can only be
determined with a battery acid tester (battery acid density meter) which enables you to measure the specific density of
the electrolyte fluid. The following density values apply (kg/l at 20 °C):
