These activities are registered on the Treatment Chart that you can find
on our local Össur website (Figure 7).
NOTE: It is also recommended where possible, to don Iceross when the
amputee is being transferred e.g. from bed to wheelchair and going to
the toilet. This will provide required compression during movement.
When the liner is not in use, a soft dressing should be applied in order to
keep the positive effects of the compression therapy. During nights a
rigid dressing (ORD) should be used to protect the residual limb and
also to maintain the contractur prophylaxis.
F) Changing the size of the Iceross
The residual limb should be measured daily and the measurement is
recorded in the treatment chart in order to follow the progress of the
treatment. Other information as seen in the treatment chart is also filled
in daily.
As oedema decreases, the size of Iceross Post-Op liner is changed to
provide continuous compression treatment.
The residual limb is measured as previously and relevant size liner is
chosen.
It is normal that the patient will go through 3–4 sizes during the first 3
weeks post operatively.
Following the course of compression therapy provided by the Iceross
Post-Op liner, the residual limb may be ready for prosthetic fitting.
In the event of delayed healing, standard compression therapy
procedures may be required prior to prosthetic fitting i.e. elastic tubular
bandage or stump shrinkers.
G) Cleaning Iceross
Each day when the liner has been removed from the amputee it should
be cleaned:
1. Invert the liner to expose the surface that has been in contact with the
amputee's skin.
2. Remove the liner, turn the liner inside out and wash it with pH
balanced, 100% fragrance- and dye-free soap. Do not use synthetic
detergents or oil-based soaps on the Iceross Post-Op liner.
3. Once clean, rinse the liner to ensure all traces of soap are removed
and roll it back to normal shape. Store for drying.
4. To disinfect the Iceross liner, spray the inside and outside surfaces
with Iceross Clean and Simple alcohol based lubricant and leave the
liner to dry.
The liner should always be sterilized before use on another patient.
Sterilization
The Iceross Post-Op liner should always be sterilized before use on
another amputee:
1. Pack the liner with paper to ensure it will remain open throughout the
procedure.
2. Place the Iceross liner in a bag and seal both ends.
3. Prepare the sterilization test kit and apply the necessary labeling.
