Avoid twisting or bending the probe. If the probe is overstressed, it
can break.

Handling

After the M2Temperature module has been plugged into the main device on the upper plug-slide
mechanism, it can be used for temperature measurements.
The start of the measurement and the time of the measurement intervals can be determined via the software
application, as can the takeover of the measurement values by the M2Smart
Measuring with the probe:
Start the appropriate software application for evaluation and display of the temperature values.
Connect the external probe to the M2Temperature module.
Position the probe where you want to measure the temperature.
Wait until the temperature has stabilized and then read the value from the display or start the
processing of the temperature value.
Measuring with the infrared sensor:
Start the appropriate software application for evaluation and display of the temperature values.
To perform a measurement with the infrared sensor, direct the infrared lens on the point to be
measured.
Aim so that the light point (target beam) illuminated is on the object to be measured. The area whose
temperature should be measured depends on the distance of the surface to be measured from the
infrared sensor, for relationship see below.
Wait until the temperature has stabilized and then read the value from the display or start the
processing of the temperature value.
Infrared radiation of various materials (emissivity):
Various materials and surfaces have capabilities to radiate infrared light and thus the information
about the temperature (emissivity). Most products in the food sector (including liquids and food
packaged in boxes or plastic containers) have an emissivity around 0.95.
Bare or metallic surfaces cause imprecise measurements due to the reflection capability of
light and heat radiation since the emissivity is very low.
You can work around such problems by measuring already blackened points of the object to be
measured (e.g. for a grill) or by painting the surface to be measured with matte black or covering it
with matte adhesive tape. After covering, you must wait a while with the measurement so that the
cover material can take on the temperature value of the object measured.
The device cannot measure through transparent surfaces such as glass. Instead, it measures
the surface temperature of the glass.
Steam, dust, smoke, etc. can hinder the correct temperature determination.
If you want to measure liquids, stir these thoroughly during the measurement!
In order to achieve precise measurement results for products that are stored under refrigerated
conditions, you should leave the M2Temperature outside of the refrigerated area if possible.
The device cannot measure through glass or plastic doors!
Open the door and measure the products in order to determine points that are too hot.
Such points that are too hot could be an indication of insufficient storage turnover or air movement. If a
measurement outside the refrigerated area is not possible, give the M2Temperature approx. 30
minutes' time to adjust to the ambient temperature.
A thermoshock, caused by sudden change of the device's ambient temperature, causes
imprecise measurement results.
If you should measure a temperature outside of the permissible range, check the point in question
using the probe.
The M2Temperature is factory-set to an emissivity of 1.0.
The value for the emissivity can be set in a range from 0.10 to 1.0.
The setting of the emissivity may only be made by people who have good knowledge of the
emissivity behavior of materials! Otherwise there can be flawed measurement results.
