4.1

Bus coupler

The series AES bus coupler for PROFIBUS DP establishes communication between the superior
controller and connected valves and I/O modules. It is designed for use as a slave only on
a PROFIBUS DP bus system in accordance with DIN EN 61784-1 and DIN EN 61158-2. The bus
coupler supports protocol variant V0 and therefore requires a separate address and configuration.
The CD R412018133, included on delivery, contains a GSD file for the configuration (see section 5.2
"Loading general station description" on page 76).
During cyclical data transfer, the bus coupler can send 512 bits of input data to the controller and
receive 512 bits of output data from the controller. To communicate with the valves, an electronic
interface for the valve driver connection is located on the right side of the bus coupler. The left side
of the device contains an electronic interface which establishes communication with the
I/O modules. The two interfaces function independently.
The bus coupler can actuate a maximum of 64 single or double solenoid valves (128 solenoid coils)
and up to ten I/O modules. It supports baud rates up to 12 Mbaud. All available baud rates are
displayed during the PLC configuration.
All electrical connections are located on the front side, and all status displays on the top.
