5 Functional description

The FEC W3 extraction system is a mobile filter device for extracting and separating welding fumes in a work area. It is a
welding system component corresponding to welding fume separation class W3 (in accordance with ISO 15012-1).
It is designed for the separation of fumes generated during welding or thermal cutting of steels with alloy constituents such
as nickel or chrome ≤30%, and high-quality steels.
It is made primarily of plastic and has a modular design with a hinged filter housing with cleaning device, and suction, bypass
and emptying nozzle, as well as a mobile frame with integrated control, an extraction system and an air outlet.
The dirty air flows through an air intake fitting that is attached to the side and tangentially into the filter unit, which also
protects the filter from possible damage due to sparks.
The welding fume particles are separated by the cyclone effect and an ancillary filter cartridge. The cleaned air then flows
downward into an exhaust fan and from there back into the work area through an exhaust opening on the back side.
The air volume flow is monitored using differential pressure measurement.

Before installing and operating the extraction system, please observe the following:
• The extraction of welding fumes while welding oil-wetted parts is prohibited.
• The system must not be installed or used in areas that are subject to dust or gas explosion hazards.
• Before putting the system into operation, check whether the operating voltage specified on the nameplate corresponds
to the mains voltage.

If the delivery has been damaged during transportation, contact the last carrier immediately.
Retain the packaging for potential inspection by the carrier.
