Q. Is there a foolproof way to protect my data on my Drobo storage
device?
A. If the Drobo unit is the only source of your data, then that would be
considered your "primary" storage. The only way to fully protect
your data is to maintain a true backup. (A "backup" implies a
secondary source of your data.) While all Drobo storage arrays do
protect your data from a single or dual drive failure, in the unlikely
event that an additional drive fails before you replace a defective
drive, then your data can be lost.
Many customers use another separate Drobo product to back up the
data on their FS array so that they have two copies of their data at
any given time. It all depends on how important this data is to you
and/or how easy it would be to rebuild or recreate this data. When
most companies back up their data, they store the second (or even a
third) copy of the data at a different location. This way, they are
prepared to be back in business fairly quickly should something

Q. How do I back-up data on my FS array?
A. Data on all Drobo devices is intrinsically "backed-up," but of course
that doesn't protect against fire, theft or accidentally deleted files.
You can duplicate data from any Drobo product onto any other
media through the network or your computer. Many customers
attach a second Drobo device to their computer, duplicate the data,
and move it to a different secure location (such as another office or
home). You can also use DroboCopy or any other backup software
program to backup data to your Drobo storage array or from your
