Problem
You notice some smoke
and a burnt smell during
operation.
Possible Reason
The appliance is heated
for the very first time.
Residues of food are bur-
ned on the grilling plate.
Too high temperature
values are set for the gril-
ling areas.
You are using an oily
marinade.
You are using an insuffici-
ent type of foil for cooking
wrapped food.
Overheating of the grilling
plate.
The Easy Solution
On the very first use, in general, the heating elements
of most grilling devices must be prepared for operation.
This is normal and harmless (see: 'Before First Use').
However, if the problem persists on later use, switch off,
unplug and thoroughly clean the appliance (see: 'Care
and Cleaning'). If required, get in contact with your ven-
dor.
Switch off, unplug, and leave the appliance cool down.
Then clean the appliance, thoroughly removing any resi-
dues of food. Always remove any leftovers, when they
are done and clean the appliance after each use (see:
'Care and Cleaning'). Do not leave any food burn on the
grilling plate.
Immediately remove your food from the grilling areas.
Set the temperature of the grilling areas according to the
requirements of your food. Refer to your recipe. If the
problem persists without any food: switch off, unplug
and thoroughly clean the appliance (see: 'Care and Clea-
ning').
Always dab your food completely dry, before placing
marinated food onto the grilling plate. Ensure good ven-
tilation (see: 'Tips for Best Results'). Select the tempe-
rature of the used grilling area according to the require-
ments of your food, as stated in your recipe.
For cooking via the appliance, only wrap your food in
thick high-quality aluminium foil suited for grilling (see:
'Tips for Best Results / Preparations'). Any other type of
foil may burn on the grilling areas, cause overheating and
damage to the surfaces, or even catch fire.
Immediately switch off, unplug, and leave the appliance
cool down. Then clean the appliance, thoroughly remo-
ving any residues of food (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
Do not use any insufficient types of foil on the grilling
plate (see: 'Tips for Best Results / Preparations'). Do
not place any foreign objects on the grilling plate (e.g.
pots, cups, grilling utensils).
