laid using the shortest route and without clamp-
ing and plug-in connections and connected cor-
rectly at both sides.
• The connection cables must be kept short and
laid without interim terminal points and without
connectors.
• Connect the motor and PTC evaluation cable be-
tween the motor and frequency converter output
with shielded cables.
• Connect the shielding braid of all cables con-
sistently and on both sides, i.e. to the frequency
converter, motor and control cabinet, to establish
a low impedance electrical connection with the
protector conductive system. A suitable EMC
cable gland must be used on the motor side to
establish a low impedance contact with the entire
cable shielding.
• It is important to ensure that the solid con-
nection of the device to the protective earthing
system or main earthing bus bar must be pro-
vided by several additional suitable earthing lines
at low resistance and permanent for blowers
installed with electrical insulation (e.g. through vi-
bration dampers, compensators, insulated pipes,
etc.) for frequency converter operation.
3.3.2 Special features of drive motors for operation with
a frequency converter:
• Depending on the input voltage of the converter, the motor
can operate with a delta or star-point connection. The
specifi cations on the motor nameplate are defi nitive.
• Please refer to the information on EMC-compliant instal-
lation and assembly of the frequency converter, in the
supplier documentation.
• Tripping relays that meet the criteria set out in Directive
IEC 61508 are suitable and able to switch to a fail-safe
safety position in the case of faults.
• Connect the output contact of the triggering device to an
appropriate release input on the frequency converter or
take another appropriate measure, ensuring that the
switch-off of the fan meets the safety requirements and it
can only be reset manually.
• The Ex db eb II 2GD T4 135°C motors used are equipped
with "PTC sensors for sole protection". This must be con-
nected to an ATEX-certifi ed triggering device and evalu-
ated so that the fan is switched off reliably in the case of
an error (see 3.3.1).
Do not connect the frequency converter directly to the
monitoring device!
• Use EMC cable connections at the motor.
• If special ambient conditions prevail, which cause strong
contamination of the blower or the cooling ribs of the
motor, ensure regular inspection of the devices.
3.3.3 It is important the the frequency converter meets
the following requirements to ensure trouble-free
operation of the blower:
Note!
An unsuitable explosion-proof frequency convert-
er must not be operated in the ATEX environment
of the motor/blower. It is important that this is
professionally installed, confi gured and operated
outside the ATEX zone.
• Frequency converter output is equal to or greater than the
motor output at max. frequency*)
• Frequency converter current is equal to or greater than
the rated motor current at max. frequency*)
Operating and assembly instructions S-MP ATEX
• Output voltage of the frequency converter is equal to the
rated motor voltage at max. frequency*)
• Pulse frequency of the frequency converter is equal to or
greater than 8 kHz as a lower pulse frequency can gener-
ate loud motor noises.
Note!
If a frequency converter package is supplied, this
is not suitable for installation and operation in
an ATEX environment and it is important that it is
professionally installed, confi gured and operated
outside the ATEX zones. In this case, the informa-
tion in the operating and installation instructions
provided by the frequency converter manufac-
turer must be observed.
• If a motor fi lter is included in the delivery, this must be
installed in accordance with the specifi cations in the
installation instructions provided by the frequency con-
verter/motor fi lter manufacturer.
3.3.4 Special features related to connection and com-
missioning of the blower / drive motor with
converter operation
• The limit data for converter operation is stamped on the
nameplate of the motors with pressure-proof encapsula-
tion.
At the converter, the voltage/frequency assignment
must be set according to the diagram.

Warning!
To avoid personal damage, destruction of the
blower or motor overload, a higher frequency
(speed) than the frequency (f
rating plate must never be set on the frequency
converter otherwise the motor may be overloa-
ded or the blower destroyed due to the increased
speed. The temperature sensors are connected to
the corresponding frequency converter inputs to
protect the drive motor.
It is absolutely essential that you observe the
installation and safety instructions described in
the respective operating instructions or applica-
tion manuals provided by the frequency conver-
ter supplier to guarantee a safe and trouble-free
operation.
Note!
The following times apply for the respective
device motor output class (see rating plate) with
run-up/expiry as well as speed changes in order
to to avoid high component loads and faults in
the frequency converter operation:
