respectively during transmission and reception. If you communicate
with other devices which do not have a compander function, it is
advisable to keep it disabled. Otherwise, if you communicate with
other MIDLAND G2 you can enable it by doing the following:
1) Press ten times the MENU button. The display shows CPd
(Compander) followed by n (disabled) or Y (enabled) flashing.
2) Press the + or – buttons to select the desired setting.
3) Press the PTT button to exit, or wait for a few seconds. The device
goes in standby mode storing the new settings.
2 If you enable the compander function, all other devices with which
you correspond must do the same otherwise the quality of the
sound could be worsened instead of being improved.

6.8 Timeout timer

If you remain in transmission for too long you could discharge the
batteries too rapidly and you could prevent others from making urgent
calls since you are keeping the channel busy and only one party can
talk at one time. For this reason you can program your MIDLAND
G2 (or the one of the other party) with timeout timer. This function
temporarily blocks transmission if this exceeds a preset duration.
1) Press eleven times the MENU button. The display shows tOt (Time
Out Timer) followed by n (timer disabled) or by timer correctly set
between 20 and 180 seconds.
2) Press the + or – buttons to select the desired setting.
3) Press the PTT button to exit, or wait for a few seconds. The device
goes in standby mode storing the new settings.
If timeout timer is enabled, the display shows the
are nearing the end of the preset timeout you will be notified by a
series of warning beeps that transmission time is coming to an end
and you should release the PTT button to go into reception mode.
When the time is over the transceiver is forced back into reception
mode.
2 It is possible to employ the timeout with a further function obtaining
a more sophisticated use. The "Penalty time" is set in the manner
described below.
2 This function is particularly useful when you are communicating
with a party inexperienced in radio communication.

6.9 Forced reception time

It is possible to set MIDLAND G2 so that when the timeout timer
is in progress (refer to previous paragraph), it is not only necessary
to release the PTT button to be able to transmit again, but also it is
necessary to remain in reception for a predefined time (that is without
pressing PTT). To set forced reception time do the following:
1) Press twelve times the MENU button. The display shows PtY
(Penalty Time) followed by n (penalty time disabled) or by timer
correctly set between 20 and 180 seconds.
2) Press the + or – button to select the desired setting.
3) Press the PTT button to exit, or wait for a few seconds. The device
goes in standby mode storing the new settings.
If, for example, you set the Timeout Timer to be 60 seconds and the
compulsory reception time to be 30 seconds, the radio can transmit
for 60 seconds after which time the transceiver is forced in reception
mode. In order to transmit again you have to release the PTT
icon. When you
button and wait another 30 seconds. When transmission is enabled,
MIDLAND G2 gives an audio signal.
