3. Preparing the teeth
Check each tooth carefully for any existing damage to the enamel to
ensure there are no "surprises" with tooth damage during debonding.
Adhere to the bracket adhesive manufacturer's instructions for condi-
tioning the teeth.
4. Applying the bracket adhesive
Prepare the bracket adhesive according to the manufacturer's instruc-
tions. Apply only a small amount to the centre of the bracket base, but
enough to cover the adhesive surface. This produces an optimum bond.
5. Placing the brackets
After applying the adhesive, place the bracket on the tooth in the usual
way, if necessary using the angulation aid on the haemostatic forceps;
align the bracket and press it on.
Before the adhesive hardens, completely remove any excess exuding
from the side of the bracket base. This is particularly important for easy
debonding at the end of treatment.
When placing equilibrium brackets, ensure that there is not any

contact with the opposing dentition (risk of abrasion and premature
bracket loss). If necessary, raise the bite with a bite-raising appliance.
6. Placing the arch and ligating
Ligating can be completed in the usual way after the adhesive has
hardened (hardening time according to the adhesive manufacturer's
instructions).
