3. Operation and maintenance according to EN 858-2
Measuring the sludge trap level
Required: Dipstick, dip plate, tape measure Dimensions:
a. Sludge level.
b. Water level.
Water level – access OK.

1. Determine the total height from the tank floor to access OK = b + c. Lower the entire
length of the dipstick to the floor (as close as possible to the drainage side). Then
read the measurement at the upper edge of the cover (b + c) or at the water level (b).
2. (First determine c) The dip plate must be attached to the dipstick.
3. Afterwards the dipstick must be lowered the the tape measure into the sludge trap (as
close as possible to the inlet side), until the plate sits on top of the sludge surface.
4. The measurement is read from the tape measure at the upper edge of the shaft ring:
Sludge level a = (b + c) - measured value.
The permissible sludge level can be taken from table 1.
