C
HECKING THE BOTTOM BRACKET CLEARANCE
! The following maintenance steps should be per-
formed before each travel with your bicycle!
Seize both cranks of your bicycle.
Try to move the cranks to the right and left.
If you do not perceive any bearing backlash that
means that the bottom bracket has not got loose.
! If you perceive a bearing backlash that means that
the bottom bracket has got loose and must be
adjusted immediately
– see Adjusting the bottom bracket, page 56!
Shift the chain onto the smallest chain ring.
Remove the chain from the chain ring and place it
onto the bottom bracket housing.
The bottom bracket is now freely rotatable.
With two fingers seize one of the cranks directly by
the bottom bracket axle and rotate the axle within
its bearing.
If the bottom bracket axle rotation is smooth
without perceptible resistance that means that
bottom bracket adjustment is correct.
! If the bottom bracket axle rotates with per-
ceptible resistance that means that your bottom
bracket is excessively tightened and must be
adjusted immediately – see Adjusting the bottom
bracket, page 56!
! Your STORCK bottom bracket is abundantly sealed
and constant-lubricated. There is no need to
grease the bearings!
CAUTION !
Risk of damage to the bearings.
Never try to remove the bearing seals from
the bottom bracket!
Maintenance work on the Powerarms SL should be limited to:
- periodical check of all surfaces
- external cleaning
- checking all bolts for tightness
(approx. every 2.500 km)
