Limit the cable length and the cable resistance to
the downstream safety evaluation to the maximum
cable length L and maximum cable resistance R

determined using Tab. 7 on page 75 so that a cross-
circuit between the outputs is safely detected.
5.3.3 Determination of the cable length —
example
The downstream safety evaluation to which the IN4000
Direct is connected draws up to 75 mA on each of the
two safety inputs. All relevant values can be
determined using Tab. 7 on page 75.
• In column I find a current ≥ 75 mA (example:
out
90 mA).
• The maximum cable length can be taken from the L
column (example: 15 m).
• The maximum cable resistance allowed can be
taken from the R column (example: 1.4 Ω)
