Before beginning installation procedures, these in-
stallation and operating instructions should be stud-
ied carefully. The installation and operation should
also be in accordance with local regulations and ac-
cepted codes of good practice.

1. Delivery, transportation and storage

GRUNDFOS 4", 6" and 8" booster modules (fig. 1) are supplied
from the factory in proper packing in which they should remain
until they are to be installed. The modules are ready for installa-
tion.
Note: During transportation and storage, the booster modules
may be treated with a mixture of water and ethylene glycol, pro-
pylene glycol or glycerine up to 50% solution. The modules are
then protected down to -15°C.

2. Applications

The GRUNDFOS booster modules are designed for the following
typical applications:
Water treatment, especially ultrafiltration systems and reverse
osmosis systems.
Pressure boosting systems.
Liquid transfer.
Closed circulation systems with a high static pressure.
Environmental technology.

2.1 Pumped liquids

Thin, non-explosive liquids, not containing abrasive particles or fi-
bres. The liquid must not attack the pump materials chemically
and mechanically.
The booster modules must not be used for the trans-
fer of inflammable liquids such as diesel oil, petrol or
similar liquids.
Pumping of salty water: When pumping water with a salt con-
centration > 2000 ppm NaCl and a liquid temperature of maxi-
mum +40°C, the feed pump must run for at least 3 minutes once a
day to flush through the booster system in order to prevent corro-
sion.
Note: The booster pumps must be stopped while the system is
flushed.

2.2 Sound pressure level

The sound pressure level of the booster modules BM 4" , BM 6" ,
BMB 4" and BMB 6" is lower than 70 dB(A).
4
The sound pressure level of the booster modules BM 8" and
BMB 8" is lower than 80 dB(A).

3. Preparation

4
Before installation, the following checks should be made:
4
4
1. Pump type
BM: Check that the pump type given on the nameplate fitted to
4
the terminal box corresponds to order.
5
BMB: Check that the pump type given on the nameplate fitted
5
to the sleeve corresponds to order.
6
2. Electricity supply
7
The motor voltage and frequency details given on the name-
7
plate should be compared with the actual electricity supply
8
available.
3. Liquid in motor
8
If a module is supplied for a dialysis system, the motor may be
supplied without liquid or with demineralized water. If the mo-
8
tor is supplied without liquid, fill the motor with clean water at
8
the installation site. See Service Manual for Replacement of
9
Motor Cable and Motor (4", 6" and 8") and section 7. Liquid fill-
9
ing, module venting and checking of direction of rotation.
