When mounted in a room, this should always take place in the centre of the
ceiling.
When mounting in pointed roof space, the smoke detector may
not be fixed at the uppermost point of the roof space as here there
is hardly an air movement. Mounting on a roof beam or a boom
would be ideal.
Close to the walls and, in particular,
in the corners of rooms and in the
case of sharp-angled ceilings, air
collects which keeps the rising smoke
away. It therefore takes much longer
until the smoke alary recognizes
smoke and triggers the alarm.
The smoke detector should be
mounted at least 60 cm from the
corners of the room, see illustration
3.
Otherwise the smoke detector
would have almost no effect
in the case of fire and only
then trigger the alarm when
the smoke concentration
becomes very strong!
The time available t4o save
yourself and others or to
extinguish the fire is in the
case curtailed drastically.
In maintaining these distances
from the corners of the room,
smoke detectors can also be
mounted on the walls.
Please note:
Even window sills, curtains or furniture have a strong influence
on the air circulation and thus the movement of smoke, The create
an area of "quiet" air. Rising smoke only reaches the smoke
detector very late or not at all!
