4.6 Capacitance Measurement

Important Notice!
• Always take care not to come in contact with uninsulated connectors
(Electric Shock! Risk of Injury). Capacitors must be discharged before
taking measurements. Residual voltage in capacitors may destroy the
instrument. Do not discharge the capacitor by short-circuiting it, but rather
use an 100 kΩ resistor to bridge the terminals. Use the DC voltage meas-
uring function to confirm whether the capacitor is discharged.
Procedure for Measuring Capacitors
1.
Set the rotary function switch (3) to the position "
or 100 µF). In the Display the correct measuring inputs into which the
adaptor is to be inserted are indicated as filled symbols (20).
2.
Insert the adaptor into the two central
inputs („V/Ω/
shown.
3.
Insert the capacitor you intend to test into
the two longitudinal slots in the adaptor
(Minus to the left, Plus to the right).
4.
According to the setting of the rotary function switch, the display
shows the value in nF or µF. When shifting through the ranges, the
decimal point shifts in the display corresponding to the corresponding
range.
5.
Read the measured value from the display.
Hints
• If you cannot estimate the capacitance to be expected, always start
measuring in the highest range ("100 µF").
