When measuring tem-
peratures of children
under the age of one,
pull the ear straight to
the back.
3
When measuring tem-
peratures of children
over the age of one,
pull the ear up diago-
nally.
4. As you are pulling the ear, carefully place
the measuring tip into the ear as far as
possible to close off the ear channel.
5.
Press the scan key once
to measure the temper-
ature (3).
The start of the measur-
ing process will be con-
firmed by a short beep.
Keep the device in the
ear until the thermometer beeps twice
to signal the completion of the measur-
ing process. Now you will be able to read
the measured temperature on the LCD
display.
Caution! The device shall automatically
switch itself off approx. 1 minute after the
last measurement was taken.
In the following cases we recommend to
take three measurements in the same ear:
In the event of inconsistent temperature val-
ues, the highest measurement value should
be taken:
1. With infants in the first 90 days of their life.
2. With children under 3 who have weak im-
mune systems and where fever could have
a critical effect.
3. In the event that you are using the device
for the first time and wish to become fa-
miliar with it.
Note!
• The symbol to the right of the tempera-
ture display flashes continuously during
the measuring procedure. The symbol is
constantly visible in the display after com-
pletion of the measurement.

• The measurement is normally accom-
plished within 3 to 8 seconds, depending
on how much time the BS 37 requires to
determine the body temperature.
• In some instance the measured tempera-
ture in the right ear, may differ slightly from
the measured temperature in the left ear.
For this always carry out repeat measure-
ments in the same ear.
• Laying on the ear that is then taken for
measurement may increase the measure-
ment results. In this case, we recommend
waiting a few minutes before measuring
the temperature.
Important!
Slight measurement fluctuations
(± 0.2-0.3 °C/± 0.4-0.5 °F) can occur, as is
the case for all other thermometers, if sever-
al sequential measurements are made.
In order to reduce measuring errors, always
allow 30 seconds to elapse between individ-
ual measurements.
7.3. Use of the forehead-thermometer
1. Ensure prior to use of the thermometer
that the infrared sensor (2) is clean and
dust free. To activate BS 37, press the
multifunction key (6) once so that the dis-
play is shown as in the diagram for fore-
head/ear measurement.
2.
Hold the device to the
temple and press the
scan key once for the
forehead measure-
ment (5). The start of the
measuring process will
be confirmed by a short
beep.
3. Hold the device to the forehead until a
two-fold acknowledgement sound signals
the end of the measuring procedure. You
can now read the measured temperature
on the LCD display.
Note!
• The symbol to the right of the temperature
display flashes continuously during the
measuring procedure. The symbol
constantly visible in the display after com-
pletion of the measurement.
• The measurement is normally accom-
plished within 3 to 8 seconds, depending

on how much time the BS 37 requires to
determine the body temperature.
• Both the left or right side of the forehead
can be used for the forehead measure-
ment.

8. Functions
8.1. Scanning
1. The device must be turned on to activate
the scan function.
2. Press and hold the multi-function key (6)
when the device is turned on. Simultane-
ously press the scan key (ear or forehead
measurement) briefly once, so that the
symbol
is also displayed at the bottom
right of the LCD display.
3. To measure the temperature press and
hold the scan key (ear or forehead meas-
urement) for the duration of the exami-
nation. You can now e. g. check the tem-
perature on a warmed up bottle of milk
or a glass with baby food. The measured
temperature is then displayed on the LCD
display.

8.2. Stopwatch

1. The device must be turned on to activate
the stopwatch function.
2. Press and hold the multi-function key (6)
when the device is switched on, simulta-
neously press the scan key (ear or fore-
head measurement) twice successively,
so that the symbol
is displayed at the
top left of the LCD display.
3. The stopwatch function starts, if you now
press the scan key (ear or forehead meas-
urement) in this mode. Renewed pressing
of the key (ear or forehead measurement)
is
interrupts the stopwatch function. Actu-
ating the key (6) resets the stopwatch to
zero. The stopwatch works for a period of
0.01 seconds to 3 minutes.
Example heartbeat measurement:
Start the stopwatch and measure e. g.
someone's pulse for 15 seconds. If you
measured 18 heartbeats in 15 seconds, mul-
tiply the value by 4. The result is therefore
72 heartbeats per minute.
Note! The device automatically switches
to off approx. 1 minute after the last meas-
urement.
8.3. Measurement of the

room temperature

The device automatically measures the room
temperature as soon as the device is in the
OFF mode. The room temperature is dis-
played by the symbol
under the tempera-
ture display. The room temperature display
updates itself automatically; this can take up
to 15 minutes.
Note! The device should not be exposed to
direct sunlight to determine the room tem-
perature.

8.4. Measured value storage

The device automatically stores the last
measured 9 temperature values. The value
measured last is thereby always allocated
to position 1.
In order to call up the memory, press the
multi-function key (6) when the device is
switched on, so that the symbol
is dis-
played top left on the LCD display. During
the measuring, the symbol for ear measure-
ment ( ) or the symbol for forehead meas-
urement (
) will be shown on the right side
of the display.
The memory position number always ap-
pears first followed automatically by the
measured temperature. Renewed press-
ing of the multi-function key (6) displays the
next memory position number.
Note! The temperature values are only
stored in the memory, if the device is able to
automatically switch to the OFF mode after
the measurement.
8.5. Switchover from °C to °F
To switch from °C to °F hold down the scan
key for the ear measurement in the Off Mode
(room temperature display) and press the
