non-observance of the safety notes and im-
proper operation of the thermometer.
• Please read the operating instructions be-
fore using the thermometer!
• Arbitrary modifications and/or alterations
of the product are not permitted for safety
and approval reasons (CE).
• BS 37 may only be operated with a bat-
tery (1 x button cell CR2032). Never try to
operate the device with a different power
supply.
• The device and the batteries do not be-
long in the hands of children – they are not
a toy. Batteries can be lethal, if they are
swallowed. Immediately obtain medical
help, if a battery has been swallowed.
• Immediately switch the device off, if it:
– has visible damages,
– does not work anymore.
• Only qualified specialist staff may carry out
repairs and adjustment work.
• Avoid the following influences to the de-
vice:
– strong mechanical stress,
– extreme temperatures,
– strong vibrations ,
– high humidity.
• Do not leave the packing material lying
around. Plastic films, plastic bags, card-
board boxes etc. could become a danger-
ous toy for children.
5. Useful notes
• The body temperature of the human body
varies during the day. The lowest tempera-
ture is in the early morning and the highest
in the evening.
• You should take your temperature and that
of your family members when you/they
are not sick and note the measured value.
You can then immediately recognise when
measuring in the case of sickness, wheth-
er the sick person is running a tempera-
ture.
6. Functional overview
Time/date: The time/date display helps
you read the accomplished measurement in
combination with the date and time memory
function. The time/date display changes au-
tomatically every 5 seconds on the display in
BS37_manual.indd 10-11
the OFF mode. (See section 7.1. Time/date
setting to carry out the required settings.)
Time:
Date:
Room temperature: The current room
temperature is always displayed in the
OFF mode. This is recognisable by the sym-
bol
to the right of the temperature display
(see section 8.3. Measurement of room
temperature).
Ear or forehead measurement: The fore-
head measurement is meant to determine
illnesses in combination with a temperature
– it never replaces consulting a physician!
(See sections 7.2. Use of the ear-thermom-
eter and 7.3. Use of the forehead-thermom-
eter, to carry out the appropriate settings.)
Scan function: You can measure surface
temperatures in the scan mode, e. g. the
temperature of milk.(See section 8.1. Scan-
ning, to carry out the appropriate settings.)
-10-
Stopwatch function: The stopwatch func-
tion is particularly suitable for measuring the
heart beat (see section 8.2. Stopwatch).
Temperature alarm: A long beep, followed
by three short beeps acoustically confirms
that the BS 37 has registered a body tem-
perature of more than 37.5 °C/99.5 °F. This
indicates a high temperature.
Memory function: BS 37 has 9 memory lo-
cations, so that the last 9 measurements can
be stored and called up again. You are in the
memory mode, if the appropriate symbol is
visible on the display below the battery sym-
bol. (See section 8.4. Measured value stor-
age, to carry out the appropriate settings.)
Switching function °C/°F: You have the op-
tion of measuring the temperature in °Celsius
or in °Fahrenheit (see section 8.5. Switching
from °C to °F).

7. Start-up
7.1. Time/date setting
1. Press the multi-function key (6) until a
double beep is heard.
2. Then press and hold the multi-function
key (6) until the "SET" symbol flashes on
the top right of the display.
3. As soon as the "SET" symbol flashes on
the display, briefly press the scan key
(ear or forehead measurement), so that
the number "24" flashes at the top left of
the display. The time is then displayed in
the 24-hour mode. If you decide for the
12-hour mode, press the scan key (ear
or forehead measurement) again, so that
"PM" appears (after 12 o'clock) or no
symbol appears (before 12 o'clock).
4. You can now enter the current hour, by
briefly pressing the multi-function key (6)
once after the 12/24-hour input, so that
the hour display flashes. Now enter the
appropriate hour with the scan key (ear or
forehead measurement).
5. To enter the minutes and date, press on
the multi-function key (6) again, so that
the appropriate minute and/or date dis-
play flashes. Enter the appropriate data
(minutes, year, month, day) by means of
the scan key (ear or forehead measure-
ment).
Note! The device automatically switches to
normal operation, if no changes are made in
the setting mode within five seconds.
7.2. Use of the ear-thermometer
1. Ensure prior to use of the thermometer
that the infrared sensor (2) is clean and
dust free. To activate BS 37, press the
multifunction key (6) once so that the dis-
play is shown as in the diagram for fore-
head/ear measurement.
