14. Volume of chime
Can the chimes be made softer?
Yes, but we do not recommend it. Once you become accustomed the hearing the chimes, the only
time you will notice then is when your dock fails to chime.
Suggestions to soften the chimes:
1. Place the clock in a carpeted area rather than on tile or hardwood floor.
2. M ake sure there is a small space between the back of the clock and the wall. Placing the clock
flat against the wall, will cause the chimes to be louder.
3. The hammer should be 2 mm in front of the rod. If you adjust them a little further away from
the rods. this causes the hammer to hit the rods softer and the volume will be softer. If you bend
the hammer back you could damage the hammer retaining spring which will influence the chime
of the clock movement.
Can the chimes be made louder?
Yes but not to any great degree. There is no volume control on the clock movement to turn the
chimes up or down.
Suggestions to increase the volume.
1. Reverse suggestions 1 and 2 of the softening process.
2. M ake sure the chime hammers are adjusted to approximately 2 mm from the rods. The size of a
room makes a difference in the volume of a dock. One placed in a hall or foyer will sound louder
as (lie same one in a large room with carpets and drapes.
