Using RDS
Radio Data System, or RDS as it's usually known, is a system used
by FM radio stations to provide listeners with various
information—the name of the station and the kind of show they're
broadcasting, for example. This information shows up as text on
the display, and you can switch between the kind of information
shown. Although you don't get RDS information from all FM radio
stations, you do with most.
Probably the most useful feature of RDS is that you can search
automatically by type of program. So, if you felt like listening to
jazz, you could have the MT search for a station that's broadcasting
a show with the program type, "JAZZ." There are around 30 such
program types, including various genres of music, news, sport, talk
shows, financial information, and so on.
This unit let's you display three different kinds of RDS information:
Radio Text, Program Service Name, and Program Type.
Radio Text (RT) is a message sent by the radio station. It can be
anything the broadcaster chooses—a talk radio station might give
out its telephone number as RT, for example.
Program Service Name (PS) is the name of the radio station.
Program Type (PTY) indicates the kind of program currently being
broadcast.
Utilisation du RDS
Le système de données radio, appelé communément RDS, est un
système utilisé par les stations radio FM pour la transmission de
divers types d'informations, comme le nom de la station et le type
de programme qui est diffusé. Ces informations apparaissent sous
forme de texte sur l'afficheur. Vous pouvez sélectionner le type
d'informations à afficher. La plupart des stations FM retransmettent
des informations RDS.
La fonction RDS la plus pratique est probablement la recherche
automatique d'émissions par type de programme. Par exemple, si
vous voulez écouter du jazz, vous pouvez déclencher la recherche
d'une station qui en diffuse par le type de programme "JAZZ". Il
existe environ 30 types de programme, notamment divers types de
musique, les informations, les sports, les talk-shows, les
informations financières, etc.
Cet appareil vous permet d'afficher trois sortes d'informations RDS:
des messages en radiotexte, le nom de la chaîne de programme et
le type de programme.
Le radiotexte (RT) consiste en messages diffusés par la station
radio. Ces messages sont laissés au choix de la station radio, par
exemple une station radio pourra annoncer son numéro de
téléphone en RT.
Le nom de la chaîne de programme (PS) est le nom de la station
radio.
Le type de programme (PTY) indique le type de programme
actuellement diffusé.
