6. Battery safety information

Batteries present numerous safety hazards. Always observe the following safety information when
handling batteries.
• The sensor is powered by 3 AA/Mignon batteries.
It is possible to operate the sensor with rechargeable batteries. However, rechargeable batteries have a
lower voltage (rechargeable battery = 1.2 V, conventional battery = 1.5 V) and a lower capacity, resulting
in a shorter battery life.
For best results, we recommend that you use high-quality alkaline batteries. If you wish to use recharge-
able batteries, use special NiMH batteries with a low self-discharge.
• Keep batteries out of the reach of children.
• Always ensure that the batteries are inserted in the correct polarity (observe the plus/+ and minus/-
symbols).
• Do not leave batteries lying around, as they present a choking hazard for children and pets. If a battery
is swallowed, seek immediate medical advice.
• When handling leaking or damaged batteries, always use suitable protective gloves to avoid burning
your skin.
• Batteries must not be short-circuited, opened or thrown into a fire, as this may cause an explosion.
• Never attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries, as this may cause an explosion. Only recharge
batteries that are marked as rechargeable.
• If you do not plan to use the product for an extended period, remove the batteries from the sensor. Old
batteries may leak and damage the interior components, which will void the warranty.
• Always replace all of the batteries at the same time. Never mix different types of batteries, batteries from
different manufacturers, or batteries with different charging states (do not mix full batteries with empty
or half-full batteries).
• Never mix disposable batteries with rechargeable batteries.
