Electropneumatic Positioner SIPART PS2
1 General Notes
This component concerns a SIPART PS2 with filter and adapter board without basic electronics for valve control and position
feedback.
Thus the valve control and position feedback system and the basic electronic board with controller can be installed
separately. Therefore the initial start-up is only possible together with the basic electronic board. A separate technical man ual
will be a part of the delivery of the basic electronic board. This manual includes assembly, connection and start-up
instructions as well as descriptions of design, mode of operation and operation.
2 Safety Notes
- Operating in hazardous areas are not allowed.
- The succesful and safe operation of this equipment is dependent upon ist proper handling, installation, operation and
maintenance.
- The device may be used solely for the purposes described in this manual.
- Low voltages which are connected must be generated by safe isolation.
- Caution: It is essential that you observe the following sequence during assembly to avoid injuries or mechanical
damage to the positioner/extension kit:
1. Mechanical fitting of the positioner
2. Connection of electric power supply
3. Connection of pneumatic power supply
4. Put into operation
- Ensure that no water can penetrate through an open housing or screw joint.
To prevent water from entering into the device during normal operation (e.g. through the exhaust vents) or to prevent
difficulties reading the display, please avoid the following unfavorable assembly positions in fig.1.
- Caution: Never clean the SIPART PS2 with high-pressure water cleaning apparatus because the protection type IP65
does not have sufficient protection for this.

3 Excluded Liability
The user is responsible for all changes made on the device, provided that these are not explicitly mentioned in the manual.
4 Mechanical connection
- For rotary actuators use the extension kit 6DR4004-8D and a sufficiently stable console (e.g. sheet thickness > 4mm
with backing) and for linear actuators the extension kit 6DR4004-8V bzw. 6DR4004-8L or the integrated mounting for
linear actuators.

5 Pneumatic connection
ATTENTION: Ensure that the air quality is suitable! Grease-free industrial air, particulates < 30 µm, pressure dew point
-
20K below lowest ambient temperature.
- Consider the dimensional drawing of the terminal block fig. 2
- If the electric supply is connected, the pneumatic supply must only be connected following assembly if the positioner is
switched to the input level "P manual mode".
- The pneumatic connections are located on the right-hand side of the positioner (fig.3).
Two pneumatic connections for the integrated installation of single-acting linear actuators are located on the rear of the
positioner: Positioning pressure Y1, air outlet E.
- These connections are locked with screws when supplied.

- Note: Spring return actuators need sufficient high supply pressure so that the complete stroke can be travelled up to
the end position of the actuator.
