6. INSTALLATION
This amplifier is built for 483 mm racks (19"). This rack should be a double-door rack where front panel and
rear panel can be opened. The rack should be provided with a cooling fan. When mounting the amplifier into
the rack, please make sure that there is enough space around the device so that the heated air can be
passed on. Steady overheating will damage your device.
You can fix the amplifier with four screws M6 in the rack. If several devices are to be installed, make sure
that you leave 1 unit (1 U) space between the devices.
Be careful when mounting the amplifier into the rack. Put the heaviest devices into the lower part of the rack.
Be aware that fastening the amplifier with four screws on the front panel is not enough. In order to ensure
safety, additional fastening by using ground and side bars is necessary.
If racks are to be transported or used for mobile use, fasten the devices additionally by connecting the rear
brackets with the side or ground bars of the rack. Thus, the amplifier cannot be pushed backwards. The front
panel alone is not designed to absorb acceleration forces occuring during transportation.
7. CONNECTIONS
All connections have to be made or changed only if the amplifier is switched off!
7.1 Inputs
Connect the output of a preamplifier or mixer to the balanced XLR inputs or the first three contacts of the
plug-in screw terminals. For better handling, the connection terminals can be removed from their plug-in
connection. The input signal should have line level. For rated power of the amplifier an input signal of 0.7 V
is required as a minimum.
• Contact configuration of the inputs:
7.1.1 Feed-through of the input signal
The input signal which is fed to the XLR jack of a channel can also be picked up from the plug-in screw
terminals of the same channel and fed through to the input of another channel. For this connect in each case
the contact 1 (+Life) and 2 (-Life) of the plug-in screw terminals of both channels with each other. The
contacts 3 (Shield) must not be connected externally as they are already internally connected.
7.2 Speaker outputs
The amplifier offers four (MCP-4150), six (MCP-6150) or eight (MCP-8150) separate channels
which can also be combined in pairs in bridge operation to increase the power output. For connecting
speakers, plug-in screw terimans are provided. For better handling, the connection terminals can be
removed from their plug-in connection. Connect the speakers to the contacts 4 and 5 of the plug-in screw
terminals. For bridge operation connect the positive pole of the speaker to the positive pole terminal of an
output and the negative pole of the speaker to the positive terminals of the other output of the respective
channel pair. When interconnecting several speakers, it is especially important to consider the correct
connection to positive and negative contacts and that the minimum total impedance is 4
and 8
for bridge
operation.
