► Attach the spark plug boot.

Folding down the handlebar
The handlebar can be folded down for space-
saving transport and storage.
► Switch off the engine and disconnect the spark
plug boot.
► Place the lawn mower on a level surface.
► Press the control bar for mowing toward the
handlebar and hold it there.
► Disengage the starter grip from the cable
guide and guide it slowly back in the direction
of the engine.
► Release the control bar for mowing.
► Hold on to the handlebar and unscrew the
rotary handles.
► Fold down the handlebar forward. In doing so,
make sure not to damage the cable.

Starting the engine
► Place the lawn mower on a level surface.
► Use your left hand to press the control bar for
mowing (1) toward the handlebar and hold it
there.
► Pull out the starter grip (2) slowly with your
right hand until you feel noticeable resistance.
► Pull the starter grip (2) quickly and allow the
starter rope to rewind several times until the
engine begins to run.
► If the engine fails to start: See the User Man‐
ual for the engine.

Stopping the Engine
► Place the lawn mower on a level surface.
► Release the control bar for mowing.
The engine stops.
► Leave the user position.

Control bar for mowing
► Stop the engine.
► Pull the control bar for mowing fully in the
direction of the handlebar and release again.
► If the control bar for mowing is stiff or does not
spring back into the initial position: do not use
the lawn mower and consult a STIHL special‐
ist dealer.
The control bar for mowing is defective.
10.2
Checking the blades
► Shut off the engine.
► Pull off the spark plug boot.
► Stand the lawn mower upright,
► Measure the following parameters:
– Thickness a
– Width b
– Sharpening angle c
► If the minimum thickness or minimum width
falls short: Replace the cutting blade,
► If the sharpening angle is not correct: Sharpen
the blade,
