Frequency Resolution

The frequency resolution in the display can be varied
between 5 and 12 significant digits by selecting menu
"OPTIONS MENU 2" followed by the "Disp" function.

Contrast and Brightness

The LCD contrast and brightness is selected in menu
"OPTIONS MENU 4" followed by the "LED" key.

Selection of Trigger Slope

The trigger slope is selected in menu "OPTIONS MENU
3". This is especially helpful on "Gate Modulation". The
two possibilities are "1" for triggering on the rising edge
and "0" for triggering on the falling edge.

Date and Time

Date and time are adjusted in menu "OPTIONS MENU
4". This may be important when the memory card
function is used. The HM8131-2 does not have a real
time clock. However, the input date and time are retained,
for example, to indicate the last calibration or to indicate
the time when data was last stored on the memory card.
It is recommended to adjust time and date prior to storing
files to the memory card. The modified time and date
are retained when the menu is left via "Esc".

Configuration

Instrument control via interface

The HM8131-2 is prepared for the installation of the op-
tional IEEE-488 (HO88) or RS232 (HO89) Interface. The
IEEE-488 interface may be factory installed (upon request)
or can easily be field installed by the customer. The In-
terface manual contains detailed installation instructions.
The HM8131 features a built-in RS232 Interface. The
setup is made via "Options menu 1" when selection the
"COM" submenu. Transmission rates 300, 600, 1200,
2400, 480, and 9600 Baud are selectable. The other
parameter are fixed. This setup should be working in
nearly all installations. In case the standard setting don't
work, an optional (HO89) RS232 interface is avaible.
RS-232 interface (Option HO89)
The RS 232 interface HO89 is available as an optional
accessory for the HM 8131-2. The instrument can be
easily retrofitted with this interface at any time. The
installation procedure is described in the manual for the
HO89. The commands for controlling the HM 8130 by
the RS 232 interface are basically the same as for the
IEEE-488 interface. Please refer to this section.
The HO89 interface is a serial, full duplex interface that
complies with the European V.24 standard. The baud rate
is automatically detected by means of a start character
(space). The operating system of the card is equipped
with the following built-in commands:
*#VR
send Version
*#CR
send Copyright
#X1/0
XON-XOFF-Protocol on/off
#BC
clear all I/O buffers
+#BD
Enable newly programmed baud rate
+#W7
Select 7bit word length
+#W8
Select 8bit word length
+#S1
Select 1 stop bit
+#S2
Select 2 stop bits
+#PN
no parity
+#PE
"Even" parity
+#PO
"odd" parity
* #ST
send status
The listed commands marked with an asterisk* cause
the HM 8131-2 to output a reply. The formats of these
replies are:
a) #VR Hameg HO89 Version 1.OD 210290
b) #CR (c) 88/89 By MTE - SoftwareX
c) #ST HM232 W(7/8) S(1/2) P(N/EO) X(1/0)
Setting the transfer parameters
The commands marked with an "+" in the table are used
for this purpose. a command string is passed to the
interface; the last command in the string is #BD. This
has the effect of simultaneously activating all of the
Subjest to change without notice
