English
does not allow to change the initial phase at the time of
synchronization.
It is possible to control the starting phase in the
synchronization mode by use of the menu "OPTIONS
MENU 1". In this mode the internal oscillator of one of
the generators is defined as "Master". This generator
establishes the reference frequency. All other generators
are "slaves" per definition. This mode is defined in the
mode menu.
Once this mode is established all connected units are
ready to receive a trigger signal.
A: The slave generators expect a trigger input from the
Sync-Output of the master.
B: The master is waiting for a starting signal at its trigger
input from the key pad or an interface input.
As soon as the master receives the starting signal, it
will transfer this signal to all slave generators. Thereby
all generators will work with the adjusted initial phase. If
the signal output frequency is changed, it is necessary
to re-synchronize the generators. If the signal frequency
of the master is changed last, the synchronization of all
generators is automatic. The establishment of
synchronization requires therefore:
A: To define a master.
B: To define the desired phase angle.
C: Make the necessary physical connections.
D: To use one of the generators as reference frequency
or to use an external reference generator (i.e.
HM8125).
E: To synchronize the equipment with a trigger signal.
Notice:
The definitions of Master and Slave are not saved
once the equipment is turned off. The internal
oscillator of the master defines the frequency
accuracy and stability of all synchronized units.

Sweep Mode

The parameters for the sweep mode are contained in
the menu "Sweep Parameters". The following diagram
shows the menu structure.
34
The sweep mode complements the standard functions
of the HM8131-2. When sweep is active the free running
or triggered mode is available. Signal control via gate is
not possible. The sweep mode can be actuated per menu
or by pressing the SWP [8] key. If active it is indicated by
the LED above the SWP-key.
The operational parameters sweeptime, start frequency
and stop frequency are independently adjustable and can
be varied also during sweep is active. If any of these
parameters is varied, the actual sweep will be interrupted
and a new sweep will be started. The display will indicate
the modified parameter. This kind of "On-Line"
adjustment makes it possible to observe the result on
the output signal immediately.
The parameter input is made in the same way as for
other functions. The procedure is similar to the frequency
adjustment. If the sweep function is selected, the display
Subjest to change without notice
