Directory of a Memory Card

The Directory of the Memory Card shows on the first
line the label (if one exists) and the time and date of
formatting. The basic name of the card is HM8131-2 card
if the card was formatted by the HM8131-2. The next
key allows movement within the directory. (similar to the
menu storage)

Formatting of a Memory Card

The memory card must be formatted prior to storing arb
signals. Help is available from the menu "Format Mcard".
Before formatting the memory size of the card must be
selected with the +kb- followed by an OK. If the
formatting is to be interrupted the key "No" needs to be
pressed. The HM8131-2 can use PCMCIA cards with
capacity of 64kB to 1MB. A formatted 1MB card has
1,034,240 Bytes available. The file size of a 4k signal is
8,704 Bytes and 33,280 Bytes for a 16k signal. Thus the
1MB card can store 114 4k signals and 31 16k signals.

Deleting of ARB Signals

The file is selected by means of the keys "Next" and
"Prev" and deleted with the "Del" key.

Storage of Instrument Set-up

The HM8131-2 offers the possibility to store 10 complete
HM8131-2 signal configurations. Each individual
configuration stores all active parameters, such as
frequency, amplitude, selected function, offset values,
modulation types, etc. However, the ARB signal is not a
Subject to change without notice
configuration. A stored function can be recalled at any time
by the menu "OPTIONS MENU 1" which allows storage
and recall. To store a configuration, the function "Store"
in the "Memory Option" is activated. The display will
show the available storage locations (0 - 9). When a
storage location has been selected, the configuration will
be stored in the selected location. The recall is made by
recalling the storage location.
Reference Frequency
In the standard configuration the HM8131-2 is provided
with a stable crystal oscillator. A TCXO with a stability of
5 x 10E-7 is available as an option. This option (HO86)
must be ordered ex factory. It is not field
installable.Increased stability for the HM8131-2 may also
be obtained from an external oscillator. The external
reference frequency must be connected to the Ext.Ref.
input on the rear of the instrument. The external reference
frequency must be within the limits of frequency accuracy
and amplitude given in the HM8131-2 specification. The
selection of the external reference frequency is made
via the menu "OPTIONS MENU 3" and "Ref". The
selected option will be displayed.
If the reference frequency from an external source
is not within specifications an "Error" message will
be displayed. The HM8131-2 must then be
switched over to the internal reference frequency.
If this is not done, the frequency of the generated
signal is not correct.

Beep signal

The built-in beeper will react to every key stroke and will
indicate any operation errors. The activation and adjustment
of the volume is done in menu "OPTIONS MENU 2".
Intensity can be adjusted between "Soft" and "Loud".

Rotary Control Deactivation

The activation of the rotary control is done in menu
"OPTIONS MENU 2" by selecting the "On" or "Off"
keys.
