1.1.

General application

The lanyard is part of the personal protective equipment for holding and rescuing and should belong to the user
personally. It consists of a karabiner, a Mittelmann S12KM kernmantle rope with or without a protective sleeve
and a length adjustment device with karabiner in accordance with EN362. It is used to secure persons in
conjunction with a harness to EN358 or a full body harness to EN361 with 2 lateral retaining lugs to EN358.
Lanyards must not be used in or as a fall arrest system as they are not suitable for fall arrest purposes. It may
therefore be necessary to use additional holding and fall arrest functions such as fall arrest systems in
accordance with EN363 or collective equipment, e.g. safety nets, to protect against falls.
1.2.
Utilisation
The snap hook on the length adjustment device is attached to the retaining eye on the side. To do this, open
the snap hook according to its function. Once the snap hook has been hooked into the side retaining eye,
release the catch. The snap hook closes automatically. Lock the snap hook additionally according to its
function.
Now loop the retaining rope around a mast or similar and hook the snap hook of the retaining rope into the
second lateral retaining eyelet according to its function and secure it. Use the length adjustment device to set
the length of the tether to the most favourable working length. Lengthen by squeezing the length adjustment
device, shorten by pulling on the loose end of the rope. The rope is secured against pulling through by an end
seam. When adjusting the length, make sure that the retaining rope is held taut and that free movement is
limited to a maximum of 0.6 metres. The anchor point must be located at or above waist height and guarantee
a minimum load-bearing capacity of 10 kN in accordance with EN 795.
Caution: When using a Mittelmann chain emergency link on the length adjustment device, the manufacturer or
a person authorised by the manufacturer hooks it onto the side retaining eyelet of the safety harness and then
locks it so tightly with an appropriate tool that it can no longer be opened by hand. The screw connection is
secured with Loctite. The emergency chain link may only be opened again by this authorised person if
necessary.
Familiarise yourself with the function before using the device for the first time. Before and during use,
consideration should be given to how any necessary rescue measures can be carried out safely, quickly and
effectively. The lanyard should only be used by trained and/or otherwise competent personnel, or the user
should be under the direct supervision of such a person. The lifeline may only be used within the specified
conditions of use and for the intended purpose. A rescue plan must be available that takes into account all
possible emergencies during work. Health restrictions, e.g. cardiovascular problems, medication, etc., may
impair the user's safety when working at height. When combining pieces of equipment to form a system, always
ensure that the functions of the individual pieces of equipment are not impaired. If the lifeline is resold to another
country, the reseller must provide instructions for use, maintenance, regular inspection and repair in the
language of the other country.
