How many smoke detectors should be in-
stalled?
At least one per bedroom / children's room
At least one per corridor / escape route
At least one per 40 m²
At least one per floor
At least one per room section if the room is divided
by high partition walls or furnishings, as these can
hinder the smoke from spreading towards the
smoke detector.
At least one in rooms in which electrical devices
are operated (e.g. portable fan heaters / air humid-

Where should smoke detectors be placed?
The centre of the room ceiling is the optimal posi-
tion for the smoke detector. If it is not possible to
install it in this location, it should be installed at
least 50 cm away from walls/ obstacles.
