GENERATORS

3. SAFETY REGULATIONS

3.1 Precautions

- Read carefully all the instructions given in this handbook:
they are of the utmost importance for correct installation
and use of the unit for prompt intervention in case of
need.
- Do not allow unskilled or untrained people to use the
unit
- Do not allow children or animals to get close to the
generator while it is working.
- Do not handle the generator or the remote control panel
whith wet hands; any misuse may cause electric shocks.
- Exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide and other
residues which are injurious to health, therefor it's
necessary not to use the generator in closed areas.
- Do not make the generator work near those areas
where dangers of explosion or fire exist.
- Any testing of the unit is to be carried out only when the
engine is stopped. Possible checks on the generator
when it's running have to be performed only by skilled
workers.
- Refuelling must be carried out only when the engine is
stopped.
- Earth-connection has to be made thmugh copper
cables having 10 sq. mms. cross-section at least

3.2 Earthing the generator

For user safety reasons, the generator should always be
earthed with a careful eye on the cable diameter. When
connecting the earth lead, use the terminal provided (fig.
4 ref. 15)

4. USING THE GENERATOR

4.1 Preliminary checks

When first starting up the unit, after performing any type
of maintenance operation, always make sure:
- that the oil is topped up by checking the level with the
dipstick see recommended oil table.
- that all electric appliances connected to the unit are off
so as not to start the unit on load.
- that fuel pipes are intact and correctly connected.
- that power connections are all in good condition.
3.2 Start-up
Before starting up the power unit, check all appliances
are disconnected, so as not to put the motor under stress
while it is still cold. Proceed to start up the unit by turning
the START key one click clockwise (fig. 4 ref.7). All the
LEDs will come on in self-control mode for about 2 sec.
Subsequently the glow plug preheat LED (fig.4 ref.1), the
battery recharge LED and the low oil pressure LED will
remain on.
The electronic power unit control circuit will continue to
power the glow plugs for 20" after which it will be possible
to start the unit by turning the starting key fully clockwise
and releasing this only after start-up, taking care that
each attempt does not last longer than 5 sec.
All cutouts will be activated after 30" from start-up and in
the event of faulty operation, the unit will be stopped and
the relative fault indicator light will come on.
Before powering the connected appliances, it is best to
let the motor turn over loadless for at least five minutes
so it gradually reaches operating temperature. In this
way, the motor will last longer and any risk of seizure will
be eliminated.

3.3 Stop

The power unit can be stopped by turning the starting key
fully counter-clockwise (fig.4 ref.7)
Before stopping the unit, let it run for a few minutes
loadless thereby allowing the temperature inside the
motor and the alternator to drop.
