Service and Maintenance

Microbial air sampler of the RCS
require no particular service or maintenance.
A fully charged battery allows the instrument to
operate for approximately 1 hour. The recharging
time is also 1 hour, thus providing the possibility
of uninterrupted operation when using a pare
battery.
NOTE
To avoid a reduction of battery capacity due
to memory effects, it is recommended that the
battery be recharged only when it is partically
completely discharged or when the LOBAT
message is seen in the display.
Occasional thorough cleaning of the rotor is
recommended. The rotor can be dismantled into
its individual parts after unscrewing the knurled
nut (see diagram). As this is a precision compo-
nent which can influence the flow rate charac-
teristics of the instrument, these parts must be
handled with extreme care. If several rotors are
dismantled at the same time, it is of vital impor-
tance to ensure that the rotor housings and air
duct cylinders are not interchanged, i.e., as
rotor housing and air duct cylinder are num-
bered, they must always bear identical numbers.

6.1 General RESET

If a part of the memory should be lost through
problems arising in the power supply (e.g.,
removal of the battery during operation), this
can be rectified by a general RESET.
Memory loss becomes evident through blanking
out of one or more of the characters or individ-
ual segments in the display.
A general RESET is performed with the instru-
ment switched off by pressing and holding the
[+] and [–] keys at once, followed by pressing
the [RESET] key in addition.
®
Plus Series
While the [+] and [–] keys are depressed, the
version number of the software is shown in the
display (e.g., 3.00). After releasing these keys,
the version number will disappear and the mes-
sage »rES« will appear in the display. Indicating
that a general RESET has been successfully
carried out afterwards the message »010« is
shown in the display.
All permanently programmed and variable
values for sampling volumes are reset to the
factory values. The correction factor entered
into the instrument during calibration is not
affected.

6.2 Calibration

The RCS
brated using the HYCON
1.44205.0001). Calibration is recommended at
1-year intervals and after dismantling the rotor.
If a discrepancy is found in the air volume sam-
pled by the instrument, this can be corrected
within the range of ±20% in increments of 2%.
The adjustment is carried out by pressing the
[RESET] and [ON/OFF] keys at the same time.
»CAL« appears in the display. By then pressing
and holding the [ON/OFF] key, the current
correction factor will be displayed, which can
be increased or decreased by pressing the [+]
or [–] keys in addition. After releasing the [ON/
OFF] key, the currently assigned factor is auto-
matically stored pressing the [RESET] key.
