thoroughly decontaminate the system. Agar media and other
consumables that were in contact with hazardous material
should be autoclaved or decontaminated using a disinfectant
that is appropriate for the specific pathogen prior to disposal.
Waste disposal of items that were in contact with hazardous
material shall be in accordance with any local regulations.
Safety check
After completing any service and repair work, have your autho-
rized service provider perform all safety checks required by
the repair procedure to ensure that the instrument is in proper
operational condition.
II.5 Replacement Parts, Optional Accessories,
and Transport
Replacement parts
When replacement parts are required, make sure that the service
provider uses only parts specified by the manufacturer. Using
unauthorized hardware accessories or spare parts can cause mal-
function of the device and impair results.

Only use options and upgrades recommended by Merck.

®
Plus Ex microbial air sampler should be trans-
ported with care in the carrying case provided with the instrument.
Internal damage can occur if it is subjected to excessive vibration
or if it is dropped.
If the instrument must be shipped back to the manufacturer,
supplier, or authorized service provider for repair or calibration,
decontaminate the instrument from any hazardous material prior
to shipment. If you have questions regarding proper decontami-
nation or shipment, please contact your local Technical Service
for assistance.
IMPORTANT
Always decontaminate the instrument prior to shipment!
II.6 Instrument Disposal
Do not dispose of electrical equipment in a
standard waste container. Please contact
your local Technical Service for assistance if
you wish to dispose of your instrument.
NOTE
Corresponding to the Directive 2002/96/EC (Waste of Electrical
and Electronic Equipment – WEEE) RCS
contain Mercury, Cadmium, Chromium VI, polybrominated
biphenyls (PBB) and fireproofing agents like polybrominated
diphenylether (PBDE) in the plastic housing. The solder of
electronic boards is free of lead. The percentage of lead in
brass is below 4% required in the Appendix of the directive
2000/95/EG. The percentage of lead in aluminium is below
0.4% as required in the Appendix of the directive 2002/95/EG.
Used up or not rechargeable battery packs should be discarded
according local regulations (as recycling). Do not discard battery
pack to normal waste containers. Do not throw battery pack
into fire!

IV. Limited Warranty
Products from Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany (referred to as
"Merck") are distributed under terms and conditions of Merck,
or its subsidiaries at the time of purchase, which may vary from
country to country. Nothing in this manual shall be construed
as constituting an additional warranty. Merck declares its instru-
ments to be free from defects of materials and workmanship.
The warranty period is one (1) year commencing on the date of
commissioning of the instrument as evidenced by means of an
invoice or other documents.
The warranty covers the rectification of all faults which occur as
a proven direct result of faulty materials or workmanship during
the warranty period.
The following items are not covered by the warranty:
1 Parts subject to normal wear and tear.
2 Malfunction caused by accidental or intentional damage or the
use of parts from other manufacturers, or through repairs or
modifications carried out by persons not authorized by Merck
to carry out such work.
3 Defects which occur as a result of normal wear and tear or from
using the equipment under conditions not specified in the in-
structions for use. The user is not entitled to any remedy in law
towards Merck, howsoever arising, apart from those remedies
mentioned here. Merck accepts no other liability or warranty
towards the user. The legal rights of the purchaser towards the
seller remain unaffected by this.
Please be advised that all RCS

with HYCON
Agar Media and other consumables supplied by
Merck. Instrument usage with agar strips or consumables not pro-
duced, distributed or authorized by Merck will void any warranty
as correct operation of the instrument cannot be guaranteed.
Furthermore, Merck will not be liable for any faults or defects
originated from using inappropriate agar media or consumables.
