What is RDS (Radio Data System)
In the RDS system, FM broadcast stations transmit such
information as station name and program type in addition to
PS (Program Service Name) data
This refers to the broadcast station name transmitted by an FM
broadcast station.

three kinds of data.
RT (Radio Text) data
PTY (Program Type) data
During reception of an FM program, this data indicates the type
of program.
A message transmitted from the broadcast station using a
maximum of 64 characters.

Topical program expanding or enlarging upon the news, generally in a
different presentation style or concept, including debate, or analysis.
Program's purpose is to impart advice in the widest sense.
Program concerned with any aspect of sport.
Program intended primarily to educate, of which the formal element is
fundamental.
All radio plays and serials.
Programs concerned with any aspects of National or Regional culture,
including tanguage, theatre, etc.
Programs about natural sciences and technology.
Used for mainly speech-based programs usually of light-entertainment
nature, not covered by other categories. Examples include quiz shows,
panel games, and personal interviews.
Commercial music, which would generally be considered tobe of currrent
popular appeal, often featuring current or recent record sales charts.
Contemporary modern music, usually written and performed by young
musicians.
{Middle of the Road Music.) Common term to describe musicconsidered to
be "easy-listening" as opposed to Pop, Rock or Classical. Music in this ,
category is often but not always, vocal and usually of short duration.
Classical Music for general, rather than specialist appreciation. Examples of
music in this category are instrumental music and vocal or choral works.
Performances of major orchestral works, symphonies, chamber music, etc.,
and including Grand Opera.
