Introduction
En
Thank you for purchasing the Korg volca mix analogue performance mixer.
This unit provides a way to conveniently combine Korg volcas (or other
compatible sound sources) into a performance configuration. Two mono
channels and a stereo channel allow for three volcas to be mixed together
through a fully analog signal path. Each channel provides a low/high cut
filter for real time sound sculpting. An external effects processor can be
connected using the send bus and auxiliary input.
The volca mix also features three power distribution sockets to power other
volcas, reducing the number of AC adapters and batteries needed.
Additionally, multiple volca mix units can be chained together by connecting
their outputs and auxiliary inputs.
A fully analog master chain combines a stereo expander with mid-side
compression for a wider and more dynamic mix.
Furthermore, the volca mix can be used as a synchronization and tempo
master for other volcas. (See Synchronization.)
(Power) button
Press this button to turn the volca mix on. To turn the volca mix off, hold
this button for approximately one second.
Auto power-off
The power-off function will automatically turn the volca mix off after
roughly four hours have passed. The auto power-off function can be
disabled using the global parameters. (See Specifying global parameter
settings.)
DC IN 9V
Jack
This is where the included AC adapter is connected.
Be sure you're using an AC power outlet of the correct voltage for
your unit.
Use only the included AC adapter. Using any AC adapter other than
the specified model could damage the volca mix, and other devices
connected to it.
VOLCA DC OUT (9V
) 1, 2, 3 Jacks
This jack can supply power to other volca series devices. Use the
dedicated DC-DC cable that's included in the package.
Never connect an AC adapter here.
Pay attention to the polarity of this jack (9V
) when you connect
a device.
Power can be provided to up to three volca series devices. If connecting
other devices, make sure that the total current used is below 800mA.
The output from the VOLCA DC OUT (9V
) 1, 2, 3 jacks may be
cut off in order to prevent over-current.
Power distribution will be cut if the volca mix is turned off.

Mixer
Mono channel input jacks (1, 2)
These jacks allow you to connect two units to the mixer using the included
audio cables. The inputs will be mixed down to mono signals.
* Mono volcas: volca keys, volca bass, volca beats and volca kick.
Stereo channel input jack (3-4)
This jack allows you to connect one stereo unit into the mixer using the
included audio cables.
* Stereo volcas: volca sample, volca sample OK GO edition, and volca fm.
LO/HI CUT knobs
These knobs allow you to filter out low or high frequencies for each audio
channel.
SEND knobs
These knobs control the amount of audio signal sent from each channel to
the SEND OUT jack.
M (mute) buttons
These buttons allow you to mute each audio channel. If the LED is lit up,
the channel is muted.
Volume faders (1, 2, 3-4)
These faders control the mix level for each audio channel.
A gain boost can also be achieved by moving the faders above the 0 dB
line (up to 6 dB).

Synchronization
Volcas can be synchronized together by chaining them via the SYNC OUT
and the SYNC IN jacks using stereo audio cables.
SYNC OUT
SYNC IN
volca mix
In order to start the sequencers of chained volcas all at once, first arm the
sequencers by pressing the (play) button on the connected volcas, then
press the the (play) button on the volca mix.
TEMPO knob
Turn this knob to set the desired tempo for the SYNC signal.
(play) button
Pressing this button will start sending synchronization pulse signal for the
currently selected tempo via the SYNC OUT jack. Press this button again to
stop sending synchronization events.
SYNC OUT jack
A 5V pulse of 15 ms is sent according to the current tempo. The pulse to
sequencer step ratio can be specified in the global settings. (See Specifying
global parameter settings.)

HEADPHONE OUT
1. While holding down (play) button, turn on the volca mix.
LINE OUT
2. Use the TEMPO knob to cycle through the global parameters. (Refer to
table.)
SPEAKERS
3. Use the (play) button to change the value of the currently selected
parameter.
4. When you have finished, cycle to the save parameter (SAV), and press
the (play) button. Your settings will be saved, and the volca mix will

Master chain
The MASTER CHAIN is a combination of a STEREO EXPANDER and a
COMPRESSOR. The level of the low frequencies is used to reduce the
level of high frequencies, adding more dynamics to the mix. (See Block
diagram for details.)

WIDTH knob
This knob sets the amount of stereo width provided by the STEREO
EXPANDER.
DYNAMICS knob
This knob sets the amount of level reduction applied by the
COMPRESSOR.
SPEED knob
This knob sets the response speed of the COMPRESSOR's envelope
follower.
Display
During normal operation, the currently selected tempo is shown on the
screen.
When editing global parameters, the currently selected parameter or
value is displayed.
Input
AUX IN jack
This jack allows you to connect an external stereo device to be mixed after
the master chain. (See Block diagram.)
Output
SEND OUT jack
This jack can be used to send audio to an external device, such as an effects processor.
Audio sent from each channel is mixed down into a mono signal before being output.
(Headphone) jack
Connecting your headphones to this 1/8"stereo mini jack will mute the
volca mix's internal speaker and allow you to create music in private.
LINE jacks
These jacks can be used to output a line level signal suitable for recording,
or for playback through external amplified speakers.
VOLUME knob
This knob controls the volume of the (Headphone), LINE, and
SPEAKER outputs.
VU meter
These LEDs display the current audio output level. The red LEDs indicate
a loud signal that is clipping.
SPEAKER switch
This switch can be used to turn on and off the volca mix's internal speakers.
