@ Starting playback
Insert the cassette tape into the Tape Slot®. Be sure
to insert the cassette tape with the open section (the
side where tape is visible) on the left. Power is
supplied to the deck automatically, one of the pro-
gram indicator® (< or p) lights up and playback
begins.
@lf the left indicator (¢ ) lights up, the bottom side of
the cassette is played back.
eff the right indicator ( » ) lights up, the top side ofthe
cassette is played back.
When radio is being received, and a tape is inserted,
the mode is automatically changed to tape playback.
Note:
Insertion of a cassette tape with slack may
cause the mode to revert to tape cue or tape
review. At this time, remove the cassette tape
and take up the slack (refer to page 15) before
inserting the cassette tape again.

(reversing tape)
®@Manual reverse
Program can be changed without turning over the
cassette tape. The tape is reversed when the
program changeover button® is pushed lightly. If
side A is playing, and the Reverse button is
depressed, playback will switch to side B.
Simultaneously the tape direction display on the
program indicator® is changed over.
@Auto-reverse
This is a convenient
mechanism
which allows
repeated playing back of both sides unless the
cassette tape is taken out.
Upon completion of the program on the A side, i.e.
when the tape end has been reached, the tape is
reversed and the program on the B side is played
back continuously. At the same time the tape direc-
tion display on the program indicator® is changed
over. When side B is completed, the program will
reverse again.

during fast forward or rewind, the stop/
cassette eject button®@ is depressed,
the fast
forward or rewind operation will stop for automatic
changeover to play back.
Upon completion of the fast forward or rewind
operation playback follows automatically. (Full-
auto replay mechanism)
@ Stopping playback
To stop playback, the stop/cassette eject button® is
to be depressed lightly.
If the power switch® is on, change over to radio
operation proceeds automatically.

Notes:
eWhen you are not listening to the tape, be sure to
take it out of the mechanism.
@Set the Dolby NR changeover button®, and Tape
changeover button®, according to the tape you are
playing (see page 10). If they are in the wrong
position, unnatural sound will result.
eDo not insert a cassette tape when the accessory
key is OFF.
@When, or just after the Eject button is depressed, do
not depress any other button or attempt to insert the
cassette forcibly. Wait until the cassette tape is
completely
ejected
before
performing
other
operations.
