FROM
AMPLIFIER
When recording important selections, be sure to make a preliminary
test to ensure that the desired material is being properly recorded.

. Switch on both the amplifier and the deck.
POWER
indicator illuminates.
Set the function
selector on the amplifier
for the programme
you wish to record, and
increase the volume levei slightly.
Load
the cassette to be recorded
into the
cassette
compartment.
Use either a blank
cassette or a prerecorded one. When using a
Prerecorded
cassette, refer to page 4 regard-
ing erasure protection.
. Set the TAPE
SELECTOR
in the position
which
is suitable for the type of tape being
used, Refer to the instructions and chart on
pages 4 and 5.
. TO suppress tape hiss, set the DOLBY
NR
switch to the ON position. If this circuitry
is not
needed, set the DOLBY
NR switch
to the OFF position. Recordings made with
the DOLBY
NR
circuit on must be repro-
duced
with this circuit on for best results.
. Depress the PAUSE
key. Normally cassette
tapes are provided with leader tapes on both
ends, Therefore, with a completely wound
tape the 'recording
should be started not
immediately.
Allow
the
leader
to
pass
through the deck for about 5 seconds. After
making
a 5 second
programme
gap on the
tape, start recording.
. Depress the REC key and PLAY
key simul-
taneously.
NOTE
If a cassette
with
its erasure protection
tabs removed
is loaded
into the unit, the
REC key can not be depressed. Refer to
the instructions on page 4.

To erase a tape without recording new material:
1. Turn
the RECORD
tevel controls to '0'

into the MIC sockets on the front
panel

place the microphones
as illust-
rated.

(R)
or
left (L) microphone
(MIC)
socket.

for
RECORDING

DIGITAL TAPE COUNTER

Adjust the recording level with RECORD
level controls so that the peak level meter
(LEDs) just reaches the "0 dB" mark on
the meter scale at the highest signal input
level to be recorded,
NOTE
When
recording
from
an
FM
tuner
that
Provides
an
AIR-CHECK
calibrator, acti-
vates the calibrator and turn the RECORD
level controls down
to the "0" position
and then adjust the controls so that the
peak level meters show constant illumina-
tion at ""—3dB".
Depress
(to release)
the PAUSE
key to
start recording,
Normally the volume and tone controls on
the amplifier do not affect recording, so
they can be adjusted as desired.
Depress the PAUSE
key in order to inter-
rupt the recording. Tape motion will stop
when
the
PAUSE
key
is engaged
and
resume
from the point of stopping when
the PAUSE key is depressed again (depress-
ed for the second time).
Depress the STOP/EJECT
key in order to
return the deck to the neutral mode when
the recording is completed.
The deck will automatically return to the
neutral mode when the end of the tape is
reached,
If the tape counter is set to "000" at the
beginning
of
each
cassette,
the
number
shown
at the beginning
of each recording
can be noted to provide a convenient tape
index. To set the tape counter to "000",
push the counter reset button.
2. Depress the REC key and PLAY key simul-
taneously.
This
action
causes
the erasure:
process to commence.
mode (Auto stop) when the end of the tape
is reached.
. The
front-panel
PHONES
socket (8 ohms)
enables a set of stereo
headphones
to be
used for private listening and critical moni-
toring
of programmes
that
are being
re-
corded,
