1. Read this manual carefully before using the unit and keep it on file for
future reference,
2. Exposing the unit to moisture can cause fire or electric shocks.
3. Do not expose the unit to temperatures over 35°C (95°F) or below 5°C
(41°F). Dusty or humid places should be avoided.
4. Do not place or operate this unit near magnetic fields - TV's, loud-
speakers
or electrical
appliances.
Exposure
to a magnetic field may
affect the magnetic properties of the tape heads.
5. Do not apply strong solvents such as benzine, thinners, strong house-
hold cleaners or pesticides to the surface of the unit.
6. Be sure to supply the specified. AC current to this unit. Operation on
different voltages may seriously damage the unit or cause fire. SHARP
cannot
be held
responsible for any damage
incurred during operation
with unspecified voltages.
WARNING
Always remove
mains plug from wall socket, when
not in use, or
before service operation.
Never remove covers unless qualified to do
so; this unit contains dangerous voltages.
Note for users in Australia:

material without permission of the relevant licensee(s) or owner(s)
of the copyright is prohibited by law.
SHARP
is not in a position to authorize the recording of copyright

Audio-visual material may consist of copyrighted works which must
not be recorded without the authority of the owner of the copy-
right. Please refer to relevant law in your country.
Check AC voltage level setting at
A
rear panel
of the unit before plugging in AC supply lead.
lf necessary,
adjust
the
voltage
selector
to
correspond
to the AC supply voltage of your
area.

CASSETTE
TAPE
SELECTION
1. The quality and condition of your cassette tapes will directly affect the
sound quality produced by this unit. Tapes of low quality are prone to
break, stretch, and shed oxide, which can lead to jamming of the mech-
anism, distortion of sound, or wavering of pitch (wow and flutter), in
the reproduced sound. Use only well-known brands of tape.
2.
Use of C-120
cassettes is not recommended.
The extreme thinness of
this tape may result in breakage or other failures.
NOTES FOR STORING CASSETTE TAPES
1. Do not place cassettes near a magnetic
field,
such
as
a
radio,
TV,
or
loud-
speaker.
Magnetic
fields
may
reduce
the tape
sensitivity
or even
erase
the recording.
Do not store cassettes for any length of
time in a hot, moist or dusty place.
Selector Adjustment:
Voltage
selector is located
on the rear of the
unit. Turn the selector with a screwdriver in
either direction until the correct voltage can be
read
in the window
next to the adjustme
screw.
Re
ed
1. Plug the AC supply lead of the deck into an AC outlet.
2. Check that the POWER
switches of both the deck and amplifier are set
in the © STAND-BY
or OFF position before connecting the units with
audio cables,
3. Connect the DIN connector
lead between the REC/PB socket on the
deck and the REC/PB socket on the amplifier.
CAUTION
|
Do not connect the deck to other decks by using this socket,
METAL TAPE
On conventional
tapes (Normal), Chromium
Dioxide
(CrO2) and
Ferri-Chrome
(Fe-Cr) tapes, the magnetic oxide pigment is coated
on a base film. Metal (Metal Alloy) tape uses the pure unoxidized
metal
as the
magnetic
material,
and
has the following
superior
characteristics:
1. Higher maximum output level (MOL) over the entire frequency
range.
2.
Lower distortion level at higher inputs.
3.
Lower noise level! at high frequencies.
4.
Excellent
frequency
response
at higher
input
levels, both for
recording and reproduction.
5. Wider dynamic range (the range between the smallest and largest
clearly reproducible signal allowing recording and reproduction
with lower distortion and noise).
In order
to make
the most
of the above-mentioned
Metal
tape
characteristics, this cassette deck has been designed with circuitry
for Metal tapes (Metal tape position).
Notes:
Prcoer
recording
and erasure can not be made with Metal tape
unless a tape deck with a metal tape switch is used and the ''Metal"'
Position selected.
Read tne reference guide included with the Metal tape carefully
before use.
