Safety notes
G
WARNING
Install the basic carrier bars for rails only on the Mercedes-Benz GLC,
model series X254, and only in accordance with these installation
instructions. Do not exceed the maximum load on the basic carrier
bars for rails of 207,2 lbs (94 kg).
Otherwise, the basic carrier bars for rails, add-on carrying equipment
and/or loads may come loose from the vehicle, resulting in injury to
you and/or other persons and/or damage to property.
G
WARNING
The roof load increases the surface area exposed to the wind, which
also raises the vehicle's centre of gravity, thus causing a change in
driving characteristics. For example, the additional weight on the roof
of the vehicle may impair braking effect, cornering ability and the
acceleration characteristics of the vehicle.
Therefore, do not exceed a speed of 81 mph (130 km/h), even when
driving with unladen basic carrier bars for rails fitted to the vehicle,
and drive with extra care.
Always adapt your driving style to the prevailing road, traffic and
weather conditions and drive with particular care if the roof is laden.
Ensure that the roof load is evenly distributed across both basic
carrier bars for rails.
G
WARNING
If the permissible gross vehicle weight or permissible roof load is
exceeded, then road safety is impaired and driving characteristics, in
addition to steering and braking characteristics, can deteriorate
considerably. Overloaded tyres can overheat and burst as a result.
There is a risk of an accident.
When loading your vehicle, always adhere to its permissible gross
weight, including vehicle occupants.
Never exceed the permissible roof load.
Do not open the sliding sunroof/tilting roof when the basic carrier bars
for rails are mounted. To ventilate the vehicle interior, the sliding
220,5 lbs
sunroof/tilting roof can still be raised at the rear. If the sliding
(100 kg)
sunroof/tilting roof comes into contact with a basic carrier bar for rails
13,3 lbs
which has been approved by Mercedes-Benz, it will lower slightly but
(6 kg)
remain raised at the rear.
approx. 57,3 lbs
When add-on carrying equipment is mounted (e.g. sports and luggage
(approx. 26 kg)
container, ski rack), make sure that the tailgate can be opened entirely.
approx. 149,9 lbs
Take note of the change in the vehicle dimensions when the basic carrier
(approx. 68 kg)
bars for rails are mounted.
Do not enter an automatic car wash when the basic carrier bars for rails
are fitted to the vehicle.
approx. 66,9 inch
For safety reasons, and in order to save fuel, the basic carrier bars for
(approx. 1700 mm)
rails should be removed from the vehicle when not in use.
