Safety notes
G
WARNING
Only install the basic carrier bars for rails on the Mercedes-Benz GLC
of the X254 model series and only in accordance with these
Installation Instructions. Do not exceed the maximum load of
207,2 lbs (94 kg) on the basic carrier bars for rails.
Otherwise, the basic carrier bars for rails, add-on carrying equipment
and/or cargo may come loose from the vehicle, resulting in injury to
you and/or other persons and/or damage to property.
G
WARNING
The cargo on the roof increases the surface area exposed to the wind,
which also raises the vehicle's center of gravity, thus causing a
change in driving characteristics. For example, the additional weight
on the roof of the vehicle may impair braking performance, cornering
ability and the acceleration characteristics of the vehicle.
Therefore, do not exceed a speed of 81 mph (130 km/h) even when
driving with unladen basic carrier bars for rails installed on the vehicle,
and drive with extra care.
Always adapt your driving style to the prevailing road, traffic and
weather conditions and drive with particular care if the roof is laden.
Ensure that the roof load is evenly distributed across both basic
carrier bars for rails.
G
WARNING
If the permissible gross vehicle weight or permissible roof load is
exceeded, then road safety is impaired and driving characteristics, in
addition to steering and braking characteristics, can deteriorate
considerably. Overloaded tires can overheat and explode as a result.
There is a risk of an accident.
When loading your vehicle, always adhere to its permissible gross
vehicle weight, including vehicle occupants.
Never exceed the permissible roof load.
Do not open the tilting/sliding sunroof when the basic carrier bars are
installed. To ventilate the vehicle interior, the tilting/sliding sunroof can
220,5 lbs
still be raised at the rear. If the tilting/sliding sunroof comes into contact
(100 kg)
with a basic carrier bar for rails which has been approved by
13,3 lbs
Mercedes-Benz it will lower slightly but remain raised at the rear.
(6 kg)
When add-on carrying equipment is installed (e.g. roof box, ski rack),
approx. 57,3 lbs
make sure that the tailgate can be opened entirely.
(approx. 26 kg)
Take note of the change in the vehicle dimensions when the basic carrier
approx. 149,9 lbs
bars for rails are installed.
(approx. 68 kg)
Do not enter an automatic car wash when the basic carrier bars for rails
are installed on the vehicle.
For safety reasons, and in order to save fuel, the basic carrier bars for
approx. 66,9 inch
rails should be removed from the vehicle when not in use.
