10. Taking measurements

a) Single measurement
Switch the measuring device on and remove the protective cap from the sensor (8).
Carry out a functional test.
To do this, place the sensor (8) on the metal surface to be measured, ensuring that it is flat.
Ensure that the sensor is not tilted or moved.
Do not apply too much force to the surface. This may lead to faulty measurements and to
damage to the surface.
Wait until the measured value is displayed. Place the measuring device in another location
to carry out additional single measurements periodically.
Determine approx. three to five measuring points distributed roughly evenly over the surface
of the measured object.
Take five measurements per measuring point and calculate the average value of these mea-
surements. This value now counts as the reference value for the layer thickness at the given
measuring point.
Repeat this procedure for all other measuring points. You may also choose a higher measu-
ring point density to achieve even better statistical accuracy.
The average value of the measurements of all measuring points then corresponds to the
normal layer thickness on the measured object.
If a measured value is above 1250 µm but still below 1500 µm, 'OL' appears on the LC
display (2). This means that the measured value is outside the measurement range.
With measured values of over 1500 µm, the measuring device will cease to respond..
Replace the protective cap on the sensor (8) after finishing the measurement.
b) Continuous measurement (continuous measurement series)
Set the continuous measurement as outlined in section 'j) Setting continuous measurement'.
When continuous measurement is set, the measuring device automatically measures the
values of the layer thickness at intervals when the sensor (8) is placed on a measured
surface. A measurement tone sounds each time a new measurement is taken. Measurement
is repeated until the measuring device is lifted away from the measured object or the power
supply is interrupted/switched off.
