4. emission factor
Most organic materials and painted or oxidised surfaces have an emission
factor of 0.95 (preset in the unit). Inaccurate readings are obtained when
measuring shiny or polished metal surfaces. To compensate for this,
cover the surface to be measured with masking tape or black paint.
Measure the tape or painted surface when the tape or paint has reached
the same temperature as the material underneath.
Operation of the unit:
Open the battery compartment and insert 2*1.5V AAA batteries correctly;
press the trigger to switch the unit on;
Aim at the target area and pull the trigger, then the temperature is
displayed on the LCD. This unit is equipped with a laser that is only used
for aiming.
Finding a hot spot: To find a hot
spot, aim the thermometer outside
the area you are interested in, then
move up and down over it until you
find the hot spot. (Figure 3)
